They should be more humble. IMHO.

Thanks, roryfaninva. Once again, I am late to the party. tongue sticking out smiley

Right now I am listening to the new WV free download: Humble Pie @ Winterland, SF on May 6, 1973. Very clear recording and a good performance by the band.

I didn't listen to HP at all until a few years ago. I bought their "Rockin'The Fillmore" LP when I saw it at a yard sale. I figured HP must be pretty cool if they played the Fillmore East in the early 1970s. Besides, the LP was only a quarter.

Never understood how such a giant voice came from such a tiny man. It's incredible.

Good stuff. I'm not particularly knowledgeable on Humble Pie, but Marriott was such a powerhouse of a vocalist and everybody should, at the very least, own some Small Faces music. They were irresistibly good.

Actually, this is a fine, fine rendition of Honky Tonk Women. A fine all-round performance and Marriott is utterly peerless in his delivery.

About 20 years ago a friend of mine gave me an Ampeg SVT 810 bass cabinet that he rescued from a basement in New Jersey. It had been partially submerged in water and was in rough shape. The name Humble Pie was stenciled on the tolex. I ended up rehabbing the cabinet and still have it and use in a studio. It's refrigerator like size and weight make moving it a real chore. I do not know the cabinet's history or if it was in fact actually Humble Pie's or how it ended up in this New jersey basement but I figured who would stencil the name of a band other than their own, and if you are trying to create a bogus history, why not stencil The Rolling Stones instead?

Anyone know if Humble Pie actually used an SVT 810 bass cabinet?

I'm underwhelmed.
Marriott was a fine singer, but he is in a way "too much". Instead of building up the vocal performance, he gives it the full blow from the beginning, which tires my ears very quickly. The band is the same way: Full throttle from the start to finish, which results in a very static performance.

The beginning sounds (guitarwise) like an early version of "hammer to fall" by queen….

Try this link:

You do have to register first (registration is free, though). Once registered, you can listen to this concert for free all day long. To download it, however, you need to be a "paid member".

When Venetta Fields first heard Pink Floyd, she didn't even consider them musicians.
"They were more like technicians. They all had college degrees and everything. They really didn't come from the same place as most musicians I knew."
"Humble Pie were a hard rock 'n' roll band. They had the audiences raging and pumping their hands and everything.
With Pink Floyd you'd be mesmerised and you'd float out of the concert so quietly and so peacefully. Definitely entranced."

The Blackberries (Venetta Fields and Carlena Williams) toured with the Floyd, providing vocals for Dark Side songs.

WOW! They are finally releasing the complete Fillmore concerts. That has been a holy grail for me ever since I first heard Rockin the Fillmore on vinyl. Saw them several times in the early 70's and the shows were amazing. Just preordered this box set which should come about the same time as the Hyde Park DVD/CD from Japan in time for my birthday. Can't wait!

Now all we need is a box set of the complete concerts by the Allman Bros at the Fillmore and the Deep Purple Made in Japan concerts. Complete Derek and the Dominos Fillmore concerts would be nice as well!

I made it to a minute 25 and I couldn't take it anymore. IMHO this song wouldn't have went anywhere if they'd been the ones to release it.

No subtlety...just a bombastic blast all the way through (at least to the 1:25 mark). Very dull.

Maybe that "full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes" approach came across better in mid-concert than watching it "cold" like this.
In any case thanks for posting, and love & light to Steve Marriott, and thanks & praises
