Thanks for posting. It's one of my favorite Stones song. Even with the crackles, I now have a karaoke version.

This is the master take, I believe, but not the finished version.

This copy runs a half note too fast.

Wonderful!

Is this uploaded on the StonesVault by any chance? I looked at the link in post above to the previous discussion but all links are dead; may I ask name of the boot - "Exile Nicky Hopkins Sessions" maybe?

That's the worst case of terminology fumbling I've seen in twenty-one months.

From the mysterious Maui Community Center practice tapes gave to Nicky to hone his parts? I have definately enjoyed the YouTube posting by that source. peace

Why don't ya clear it up then!

I meant:
Master take = the basic take that yielded the master, i.e. the officially released version on Exile.
Finished version = master take with overdubs/edits/mixing/mastering

Telling you now would complicate things. We still need ways to easily point out the wannabes.

The Hopkins version is the master take, with added overdubs (brass, some guitars), but before some more overdubs where added in LA (more guitars, vocals) and mixing and mastering took place.

There's a bit of semantics here though. In the studio a master take is the best take of the basic band, which then is edited, overdubbed, mixed and mastered. In the recording industry, a master is the finished product, mixed and mastered, and the source for all replications (CD, LP, digital etc).

Wrong all over. You still haven't done what I told you. Read the literature (Lewisohn).

You don't have to be so darned arrogant about it, Carster. Some of us don't have time to read literature on music recording terms just to be correct on a Stones forum. Besides, you seem to confuse Mathijs for me. Not that I'm offended.

That's the only language wannabes understand. Do your homework before you write. Instead of producing a lot of noise. (Like that stupid GIF).

You're the grumpiest person I've seen on the internet in a long time.
