"Oh what could have been"...How true, if the rise of the internet and social media etc. etc...hadn't put the movie industry into a tailspin. Actors like to act...to work in quality films. Very difficult to get financing for a quality film in today's world.

All of the great songs have already been recorded and all of the great films have already been made.

Yeah... Look at the Coen brothers. Or Wes Anderson. Or Ken Loach. Tim Burton. Woody Allen. Michel Gondry. Pablo Berger. Michel Hazanavicius. François Ozon. Richard Linklater. Michael Haneke. Philippe Le Guay. Michael Winterbottom. Ulrich Seidl. I could go on. There are lots of film makers making incredible good films; I can't keep up! So it probably isn't that difficult financing a good film and/or it isn't difficult to make a very good film without a standard Tom Cruise budget.

In Bill German's 1989 radio interview with Keith, he threw a series of single words at Keith, including:

BILL: "Actor."

KEITH: "De Niro."

It seems his legacy is a;ready cemented with Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas. He has been a part of several great films spanning a number of decades.

It seems also that he is more concerned with keeping himself busy than what critics yet to be born will think and write about him after he is gone.

If you look at his listing in the Internet Movie Database, it will show that despite turning 70 this year he is nonetheless involved in seven titles that have either been released, completed, or in post-production. His drive and commitment to a work ethic remains impressive. The IMDb also lists two films that are in pre-production, one for 2014 and the other for 2015.

Maybe he is not always involved in a great film, but he plays it like he is giving it his all.

A few years ago I ate in a restaurant De Niro co-owned in San Francisco called "Rubicon" that was quite good. I suppose when I walked across its floor you could say I "crossed the Rubicon."

He plays a caricature of himself...I think there's a band we all know and love that's been accused of that in the past.

Sorta true. Hollywood has run out of of new material these days and mostly recycles story lines

The great rock was made years ago and was due to the post WW2 population boom. It was a mass phenomena for masses of 20 years olds. Of course there was some exceptions but that's how it was. Plus an artist or group could make money on records. Downloading has killed that for most musicians. Ian Tyson made the down payment on his ranch from royalties he got from Four Strong Winds when Neil Young recorded it and sold millions of copies of that album. Can this happen today?

Mega artists like 23 year old Taylor Swift make 100 million dollars but most young artists will starve

Well, if you only go to Hollywood for movies I guess that would be true, but there are many many great indie filmmakers out there, and many many new bands and musicians producing terrific new music. How we access it is different, but you don't have to look to the past--there's a lot of exciting music, film, and art still being made. Just go out and look for it.
