I really doubt hearing Taylor on the soundboard. Can you? On which song?

Going to a GoGo, when Charlie beats it in the beginning, MT goes da-dada-da-da-da. That´s him. Sure.

check out the intro to TIOMS - he's definitely there. Also, Black Limo and YCAGWYW he is quite noticeable (but, hardly dominant). It's a shame the boys asked him to join without allowing any space for him to solo - must have been frustrating for MT. But, he's definitely present from Neighbours through to the end of the show.

I can hear his distinctive slide on "Black Limousine" as well. Mick J says thank you Mick at the end of the song.

According to Zentgraf he played from Let Me Go onwards. So he didn't play on Black Limousine? But I don't know...

Zentgraf is dead wrong. Taylor can be heard on Neighbours and MJ even says something in reference to MT being there after the song.

I think Nico's info came from a boot.

Eyewitness accounts reported here have Taylor in at least as early as BL, where he was reported to have traded licks with Ronnie. I think MJ says, "Thank you Mick" after BL as well. Also, an old thread has a B&W pix from the performance.

I have not heard this in a while, but I think that is Taylor playing chords over the YCAGWYW intro. I suspect he left after YCAGWYW or LIB, but again I've not listened to this in a while.

We don't know how much "room" there was for Taylor because he is not plugged in to the soundboard so it is not easy to hear him. That being said, I wish they'd given Ernie the night off . . .

The strange thing is that the Stones (Keith) were peeved at MT for playing too loud during the show. And, it's a shame, 'cos obviously the Stones were toying with the idea of bring MT on for the upcoming PPV, but since this didn't go down well, he obviously didn't "pass the audition."

Smokey: where did you get MT was not plugged in the soundboard? It is maybe true, but weird. I have never heard about such pattern anywhere for any group.

(following) However, if this not-plugged story it is true, for the first tinme, we should look for audience taping rather than soundboard one. And it has to be from someone closed to the stage, even better on Taylor's side. What is he on the left, as in the old time, by the way?

Black Limo
Let Me Go
Time Is On My Side
Imagination
Tumbling Dice
Beast Of Burden
Let It bleed

You hear him clearly on those songs. On BL he's really loud. Which boot do you have?

I have asked this question several times and the response is that he is not clearer on the audience tape.

The available audie tape isn't very good picking up much of Taylor.

Mick Taylor was not plugged into the soundboard (thanks Mick J.) during
this show. What a shame.

Re-listen to the soundboard from Dec. 14, MT is Not on there except at
the very beginning or ending of any song (where his amp is picked up by Ronnie's
amp microphone). MT turned up his guitar amplifier so loud
during the show to try and make up for the lack of PA hookup.
He was well aware he wasn't "plugged in" to the sound system.

Lost history here, courtesy of Mick Jagger.
Of course all the Stones' live history is lost because of Mick Jagger's inability
to deal with how good the Stones were 25 years ago.
He has to believe he's just as good now as ever -- being a certified elite
multi-millionare, who must continue to tour to add to his incredible income.

Why do some blame Jagger for the snafu on this show?
I've only heard bits and pieces of this gig
What amp did MT use? His own? Did he use Jagger's amp?
I would think the sound guy would be on the ball for this show.

it's egos my friend...

There's no doubt Keith/Jagger would not have provided Taylor with "perfect" equipment....why would they care??

The sound was going to be the same with or without Taylor....

It's funny the band didn't improvise though. They have a former legend guitarist playing with them and the solo opportunity is endless yet they play like the usual show - the sax comes in at the right time etc....quite strange.

According to Ian McLagan, Taylor used one of the bands Boogie Mark I's, but the problem was that Taylor didn't have a monitor and was standing 30 feet from the amp. He had to turn it up loud as heel in order to hear himself. Therefore, in comparisment to Wood and Richards, Taylor's amp was turned down quite low in the PA mix and is he hard to hear. Btw, as all mono soundboards from the 1981 tour appearing lately are taking from pro-shot video's, I wouldn't be surprised this show will show up as well on DVD, just as the opening night in Philly, Buffalo, Dallas and MSG.

I was really looking forward to the guitars on this show but Ernie Watts tramples all over them the entire show. Yes EW is some bigshot Hornplayer but with the Stones in 81 he did not exhibit ONE IOTA of subtlety or restraint.

Amen to that. Then again, I'd like to toss all the brass out the window. Lets hear the boys in their element. IE: bstage setup for 2 hours. The only exception would be to let Bobby Keys in a few times.

ChelseaDrugstore, I am in such agreement with you. I know for many on the boards, the '81 tour is a high point. For me, I can't hear one guitar from the other. I feel there is a difference from "weaving," as I hear in the shows that worked from the 78 tour, and a wall of noise that I hear in the 81 shows. For me, there is just this high pitched trebly yell of guitar parts seldom seperating with Ernie squaking over it all. God, people complain about Chuck, but he never dominates nearly as much as Ernie did then. And if people think the brass is intrusive now, Ernie squaked away on nearly every song after he appeared rather there was an appropriate brass part or not, at least the horns now days take a rest from song to song.

It is wierd that I feel this way, since I saw multiple shows, both arena and stadium, of the 81 tour and remember in my mind that the group had redeemed itself. In '78 I had the misfortune of seeing the Cleveland show that many of us feel is the worst professional performance by any group since the advent of stage monitors. So when I rely on memorey, I remember the thrill of what seemed to be almost a triumphant comeback of the group live, but when I listen to boots, there is hardly anything from that tour I will put on before Handsome Girls, or even recent Licks boots.
