The part where he sings "with" John always gets me.

Loved that part too! Glad you made it in! How did you do it?

I had a resale ticket that turned not not to be valid, like many people, but the venue gave us the option to buy face value tickets instead. Another reason to love the Pinnacle!

Fantastic! I thought it was sold out. Hope you enjoyed Nashville.

It was sold out, many times over, I think. But they were doing a last minute ticket drop, that we'd been lining up hopefully for hours, and they let the people with dodgy tickets go first. smiling smiley Always enjoy Nashville!

Interesting, this thread is the first time I’ve heard anyone badmouth Wix. He’s always spot on every time I’ve heard him play with Paul.

Maybe his monitor wasn’t working well. Maybe something else was wrong. I don’t doubt he’s top-notch. The sound was off. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not the only one saying that about keyboards at the Nashville show. Shit happens.

Oh I believe you, if that’s what you heard, he must have had an off night for one reason or another, just a surprise as that seems to be a rarity.

According to some reports, Mick appears on this new documentary. I don't know if it's archival footage or a recent interview, but I'd bet on the latter.

Wings is a tough story to tell because it peaked about 2/3 of the way through and then fizzled out, it'll be interesting to see how they pitch it. I'm looking forward to it, it should be a fun film.

I'll be curious to see it, because I've always viewed Wings as McCartney WANTING to be in another band, but he was unquestionably the leader and it was never really a "band" in that way. Besides Denny and Linda, it was a rotating cast of characters, all of whom were very talented, but basically Paul didn't seem to want it to be the "Paul" show yet he's so big it could never avoid being that. I've always found it admirable he tried as long as he did with it before dropping the moniker entirely. In my mind it was a fake band that Paul could only get away with pushing as long as he did because he was a Beatle (which again, is not meant to be a criticism of the players or the music itself. Its just, it was basically always Paul and he was going "no, no, its Wings." Sure Paul, whatever you say).

To me, McCartney's solo output was so curious. McCartney the album is an acquired taste. Ram is a personal favorite of mine but I don't know if that's a widely held opinion. Band On The Run is unquestionably great, and really the thing along with Wings Over America (which is a terrific live album) that gave the "band" any sort of legitimacy. But after Run its truly spotty, I always felt like Paul wanted it to be so much more than it ever actually was, so I'll be interested how he reflects on it now. I know there's a later picture of them that exists but its crazy to me that Paul and Denny literally never played together again post Wings breakup. I've heard they were never very close which is strange why he kept him around as long as he did.

Re Paul and Denny not getting back together after they drifted apart in the 80s - I saw an interview with Robbie McIntosh the other day where he said he didn’t see/speak with Paul between 97 and 2022 when he went to a gig and got to say hello back stage, and I thought that was a bit odd too - not that I think Paul needs to have lunch each month with everyone he’s ever played with, but it’s wild to go from playing shows together for years to never hearing from them again.

Very much the Hendrix/"Band of Gypsies" or Clapton/"Derek and the Dominos" pattern...

Think about the people you used to work with.

This is not because you are playing in a band that you become friends or mate.

This is first a job and life.

When the thing is over each goes on his way.

Apparently there will be unheard music (one outtake ?) but also a new presentation of some recordings (isolated tracks in the studio) ? The rest is unlikely to be of great interest for dedicated fans who know the stories inside out ;-)

Not really. Up to the end they were doing commercially well (albeit not as much of a powerhouse as the mid 70s), they did a tour of the UK, played a massive benifit concert for Kampuchea. But after the Japan bust and Lennon's death McCartney and Linda has no appitite for touring which is how the rest of the band would make money, and Denny folded his hand. But interestingly he kept playing with McCartney in the studio for Tug of War and a few other sessions.

I know he's credited on "Pipes of Peace" that was released in 1983 but I don't know of any documented sessions after Montserrat in 1981. He was supposed to attend a session after they came back to London but called saying he wasn't coming and that was the end of it.

Denny is definitely NOT on Broadstreet ! Flatly contradicting without looking something up in this day and age...

My bad, I lost that in the echos of time. I thought I remembered him in the studio for the album not the movie. Your correct he isn't on GMRTBS.

Man on the Run review – archival delve into Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles era is a welcome revisit

After the Fab Four fell and Wings took flight, McCartney embodied a strange, stylised sense of uncool, which would become bestselling success. A new documentary of old material memorialises his second coming

Jagger more or less says bands don’t last forever, only family does. Felt like an interesting statement given today’s last album / defo no tour update.

Thanks for the link, not much of a review sadly and not up to the Guardian's usual standards!
Can't see who's really going to be interested in that tired old story of Macca in the 70s..fans know it by heart (especially after the Legacy books) and newcomers, hum...not watching this alone guess I'll try to watch it with my daughter who's a music fan in general and who I took one of his shows when she was 9 ;-)

Me for instance, because I was a bit too young to be live on tour with the Wings. It can be watched for free during the Prime trial period - [www.Amazon.com] .

It's not like there haven't been dozens of opportunities with Macca/Wings 70s stuff over the past 30 years ;-) Wingspan for a start, then the Deluxe versions, the many books and very recently the wonderful two Legacy books. But yeah, biggest Macca here since 1982 so anything that brings him to new people works for me ;-)

Of much more concern is how much "slower" Macca seems in the conversation with Morgan Neville in the credits of the movie that have been shared on YT. Seems like he's aged 10 years since his last shows, even playing the piano of 1985...I'm surprised his team let them publish that. Well I suppose he gets an extra boost from getting on stage but still...

Here is one of them [www.youtube.com]

At a certain point I feel he has to start acting like he's in his 80s. Seemed perfectly fine to me. Slower but I was shocked it hadn't happened already.

Heard a lot of negativity but I have to disagree. As a life long Beatles fan I thought I knew everything, but definitely I didn't know all the Wings stuff. Plus there's more spin on The Beatles break up and relationship with John. Basically I liked it even though I mostly don't like Wings music.

I'm not fond of the Wings music either, but always get something out of new insights from Paul (since John's death) into their breakup and reconciliation,

Man on the Run, for a Beatles freak like me, the letter he wrote to Allen Klien, which has never been seen before, nor even give a prior reference, was worth the price of admission alone. He wrote "Dear Pig, F V C K off! Love Paul."

Just watched 'Man On The Run".

I was very surprised at how good it is. Quite a lot of frank stuff about his time in the Fabs.

I did wonder towards the end about Stella/Mary's account of how they learned about John's murder. Their account said that they were 'at home' with Paul when the phone call came - and the accompanying images showed what I reckoned to be the farm in Scotland. (It didn't look much like Sussex/Rye). But Paul was in a studio in London that day.....

Very well worth the time to watch.
