Not even going to bother with the new album.

It will never grow on me.

The previous album "New" I only listened to twice.

There were some nice, catchy tunes on it.

Just as, I'm sure, is the case with Eqypt Station.

But we don't talk about Paul McCartney for what he writes NOW.

We're interested because of what he wrote THEN.

The Beatles are archetypal.

That music is in the very DNA of cultural memory and consciousness.

As far as songwriting goes, it all comes down to this:

2018, you're no 1968.

Agreed with all of that above.

Just listened to it on Spotify. A bunch of catchy but forgettable songs. Guy's got a knack for melody, I'll give him that. And I think he does still genuinely love recording and writing new music. And some ok songs. But not one I'd ever feel I have to go back to. I feel thats fairly honest and not too negative. Its fine, its just not memorable in any sort of way the same way most of his solo albums over the last 20 years have been. I've always felt you can sort of sense how much he still loves doing it mixed in with how incredibly lazy he is that once he gets the melody thats it. Its just more his songs these days are always fairly by the numbers. He gets the melody and we're off from there. Doesn't really change, its basically whatever he can think of for the next 3 minutes. And I'm obviously not knocking him, man is a legend, but at this point he's obviously not pushing for things. I do think the album's saving grace is the songs are all fairly short (3 minutes or less) so they are harmless and don't overstay their welcome. Leaves a better impression. As for one of the longer songs (Dominoes), I have no idea what Rolling Stone is smoking when they write something like this:

"This album’s masterpiece: “Dominoes,” one of those Paul creations that feels both emotionally direct yet playfully enigmatic. An eerie acoustic guitar hook, worthy of the White Album, builds for almost five minutes, complete with an old-school backwards guitar solo and the disarming farewell line, “It’s been a blast.” It aims for sonic territory someplace where “Too Many People” meets “You Won’t See Me,” yet it ends up somewhere different entirely. “Dominoes” is one of his toughest solo moments ever—it has the unmistakable McCartney touch everybody else keeps failing to copy, yet it feels totally fresh and new."

Personally I thought Do It Now was the best song. Yeah its fairly generic but enough of a good melody to feel it was really building somewhere. Does harken back to classic McCartney. Oh well, just my opinion. I'm sure like most of his recent albums some will end up sounding better live.

It was short and genuine. Who doesn’t love Paul McCartney?

Hi everyone! I hardly ever post anymore.

I'm a big McCartney fan, and really liked Memory Almost Full and New. I'm listening to Egypt Station right now and hope there's someone around to talk!

I've listened to it and definitely have a few thoughts, but I'd like to give it a second listen after tonight's concert... which I'll try and review too.

Hope that everyone has a rockin' evening!

Thanks Cristiano, was hoping to catch some of this, but there's a 25 minute delay (and counting) - maybe Paul has stage fright.winking smiley
I'm out the door to an art reception...hope to catch it when I get home tonight.

1. A Hard Day's Night

I like the presentation. Very Slick. The cams in the audience is a nice touch, but I get tired of handheld all the time. Performance was peppy.

2. Hi Hi Hi

Awesome. This song never gets old. The camerawork is too busy for my tastes, but the sound is just fine to my little ears. Rock it!!!

1. A Hard Day's Night
2. Hi Hi Hi
3. Can't Buy Me Love - A sturdy song for sure and a good performance. Doesn't really complement his voice right now, but you can't really go to wrong with that classic rocker.

1. A Hard Day's Night
2. Hi Hi Hi
3. Can't Buy Me Love
4. Letting Go - @#$%& awesome, reaching in for a deep track and coming up with a nice little jewel. I liked this one. The horns ROCK, I never ever get sick of a killer horn riff. His band is badass. And it's so good that they have a really good sound mixer at work here. Remember one time on SNL the mix to his performance was frightening.

I'm diggin' it. It's GEAR man, GEAR!

1. A Hard Day's Night
2. Hi Hi Hi
3. Can't Buy Me Love
4. Letting Go
5. I Got A Feelin' - Another cool Beatles track from the past. I'm glad he;s spending his time rocking out instead of ballading (so far). The band sounds great. I love the drummer. He's cool.

But I'm ready for some new stuff!

Good hardcore improv jammin right here on I Got A Feelin'. I'm impressed.

1. A Hard Day's Night
2. Hi Hi Hi
3. Can't Buy Me Love
4. Letting Go
5. I Got A Feelin'
6. Come On To Me - I'll save my opinion of the song for now, but the band is rockin', and the sound mixer deserves an award, because other than occasional feedback (happens to the best! tongue sticking out smiley ) the sound is just right IMHO.

7. My Valentine - It's okay, but for the most part I prefer the rockin' stuff.

7. My Valentine
8. 1985 - One of my all time favorite songs of all time right here. It just pulsates with life and fury. Love x1000. If I saw this in concert, I'd call myself lucky. Such a majestic song, one of his masterpieces, I'd say. The band is rockin' it again. Love that drummer.

band on the run ... band on the run (fadeout)

9. From Me To You
10 Love Me Do - I recognize the simple genius of this song. It's one of the first Beatles songs I remember really enjoying on a deeper level, because it's kind of a fractured blues. So, nice choice, and it benefits from a restrained performance here.

11 FourFiveSeconds - It's not one of my favorite songs of his, but I like it okay enough. It's a pleasant tune. Short, so if ya don't like it, it's not too insufferable.

12 Blackbird - Some of these songs haven't been too flattering for his voice, but I definitely think his weathered voice sounds just right for this song - which is a work of genius I have to say. I've always loved this song, I once had a transcendent moment with it when I was younger.
