I've reviewed Egypt Station for The Arts Desk - where I published the Twickenham Stones review in the summer (#bestgigoftheyear) - here is the link for Macca heads. I really really liked a bunch of songs, though I reckon it's 57 minuts could have been cut to 45 or so... But it's just great stuff, catchy as hell, some good riffery and a lean feel to it, except for the melodic fecundity... Only had a stream, and a day before I had to write, so it is a very instant review, more or less on one listen.

Don't want to sway opinions but on first play I'm not in love with the new CD. But yeah there are some catchy parts, just not enough to save it in my opinion. Maybe it will grow on me. On the more positive side I really like all these special events he's been doing lately. Can't wait to see him in December.

Paul guests on Marc Maron's latest WTF podcast:

Sir Paul McCartney

Marc talks with Paul McCartney about, well, a lot: The Beatles and Stones rivalry that wasn’t, his current relationship with Ringo, the influence of Little Richard, The Who, The Beach Boys, how he needs to have an out-of-body experience to really examine the Beatles legacy, the reception of his solo work after the Beatles, recording Band on the Run in Nigeria, what messages are in his songs, which songs still make him emotional when he performs them, and what he brought to the table for his latest album, Egypt Station.

In setting up that podcast interview, Maron's comment "one of two Beatles left" still hurts, even after all this time...

Nice...Paul is here, there, and everywhere. thumbs up

Paul's hair seems to be getting lighter and lighter/more natural looking - Mick should do the same.

Cute sketch. Paul has always been a pretty good sport. Definitely lookin older but hey, still a legend. Amazing what he's still able to do.

Loved the Maron interview. Thanks for the link! Still have to listen to his Stern one.

Regarding Macca's willingness to "go natural" with hair color...

...it seems he's got a very skilled stylist...

...sort of, to ease fans into the transition...

...because he's got a lot more color at 76 than he should have.

Look at a snap from his 1986 promo vid for the Press single...

...Already strikingly silvery on top and sides -- and that was 32 years ago...

...he may now have a few strands with [dull] color left, but not as many as he's been seen with lately...

No, it's very skillful and calculated...

...the same way that Jack Klugman's toupee was...

(Jack Klugman with "hair")

(Jack Klugman without "hair")

Mick would never do it. Because he'd look like Don Knotts in Three's Company:

(Mick Jagger lookalike Don Knotts):

Would you let your grandmother marry a Rolling Stone if he looked like Don Knotts?

I'm having my first spin of it now. We are lucky having Mick sounding as good as he does, regarding his age. Paul does not, imo.

That said, he wears his aging voice with pride, and the songs I've heard so far are pretty good/okay. Happy With You sounds promising.

Hi Dandy, I too like the sound of "happy with you" but I kind of lose it when I think of the dippy lyrics. Seems kind of ordinary, I smoked pot now I don't because I found you kind of stuff. Maybe I'm being too critical. I'm going to step back a little and re-evaluate later. In the meantime I hope the live feed today/tonight on YouTube will be great.

I don't think we talk enough about how amazing it is that Mick can still sing the way he does at his age.

Part of it is that his physical fitness and stage performance tends to overshadow his actual singing, but he really is a freak of nature in more ways than one. There are so many aging singers in the rock genre that give cringeworthy performances.
