All Along The Watchtower

go to Expecting Rain, the Dylan boot site. Bob tapers put Stones tapers to shame.

Actually Bob tapers are diminishing probably as his show becomes more predictable. There are many shows from the Americanarama tour with no tape including Clarkston (Bob did Richard Thompson"s 1952 Vincent Black Lightning), Toronto (Twelve Gates To The City) and Bridgeport (Let Your Light Shine On Me). Tapes may still appear but I'm not holding my breath. All Stones shows from 2013 taped except the club gig. 1984 all shows were taped on the Bob/Mick T tour. I recommend Barcelona.

Cool clip, thanks for posting.

Had a chuckle watching it after all of the speculation why MT had to adjust his amp almost every night while playing on the Stones 50+ tour. Anyone else notice about 0:50 into this clip where MT quits playing the rhythm part (you can hear it stop) to make a change to his amp prior to starting his solo? For all the speculation on why he was never happy with his settings in 2013, apparently this has been an issue for going on 30 years!

Peace,
Mr DJA

Bob Dylan wrote "Watchtower"

great song, strange and elusive in its simplicity.

We all make mistakes but the only thing I've learned today is that Des is not a Dylan or Hendrix fan. And since "Watchtower" is such a monumental song and since Duke summed it up so well, I am assuming Des is also very young.

A few of you guys might like to know that Jimi was so proud of the Melody Maker review of his version of "Watchtower" that tears came into his eyes when he read it.

And Dylan was equally proud when he heard the Hendrix rendition. They were mutual fans of each other.

I just can't get into Dylan, this voice! Always loved this song though, the Hendrix version.
I want to try some more Dylan though, where should I start?

Maybe start with an album where he was singing with a different voice technique, like Nashville Skyline which yielded the hit Lay Lady Lay, or an album where the songs are so good all the way through that you won't mind the nasal twnag in his voice, like Blood On The Tracks which yielded Tangled Up In Blue and Simple Twist Of Fate.

I also want to mention a 1973 Bob Dylan album, the soundtrack to the film Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid.

As you mentioned you had issues with Dylan's voice, this is another instance where his vocals would not grate on you. I've never listened to the full soundtrack album, but it yielded one of his most notable and widely covered songs, Knockin' On Heaven's Door.

And if you want to view the film, make sure you get Sam Peckinpah's restored original cut from 1984, as upon original release of the film MGM messed with the director's version, cutting scenes and disrupting the soundtrack. On the soundtrack, Booker T. Jones plays bass guitar, Jim Keltner plays drums, and Roger McGuinn plays guitar.

One of the most unique voices in rock history!

Like Mick, he became a little high on himself, and developed a more "arrogant" and less melodic singing style. However, listen to this if you are in doubt of his voice - it's simply brilliant singing, imo thumbs up

Which voice? He has about a dozen. Start with Blood On The Tracks, then try Blonde On Blonde and Highway 61. If you need a pretty-voice Bob, put on Nashville Skyline.

Bob really messed Infidels up by leaving so many cool songs off of it! Why Bob?

Well, when you play as sweet as he does, you want to make sure people at the back can hear you!
