hopefully there are a few fans of BOC on here. i own pretty much everything they released until 1984 plus Heaven Forbid. would anyone recommend Imaginos or Curse of the Hidden Mirror or even the Buch Dharma solo album from the early 80's?

Robbie Krieger is a fan and used to make guest appearances with BOC in concert.

There's no such thing as a blue oyster.

It's like ufos, bigfoot and ringo from the beatles.

Nevermind later BOC albums or even BOC member solo projects--

Do you realize that Don Rickles is still alive?

I mean, isn't that amazing?! Because Johnny Carson, Ed McMahon, and Doc Severinson are all dead! And even some of the guest hosts, like George Carlin, are also dead! Isn't that amazing?

Doc Severinson is alive & well.

BOC still rock pretty well. They're on the Native American casino circuit. Worth going to for nostalgic reasons. They were selling official BOC cowbells!

Not surprised by the pinhead bleats here -- but BOC was the best. I'm mostly invested in the prime years (Through "Spectres", but there are jewels throughout their career). "Imaginos" is Albert Bouchard driven after he left the band, and is dense and definitely worth investigating. Although only Buck and Eric remain, they are also still a great live act. And Buck of course is the best and most important guitarist most people don't know of, even if they know how to say "more cowbell."

They never quite hit the pocket enough for my taste, but they had some good riffs on occasion.

This is very Spinal Tap-ish but I find it charming regardless:

Imaginos is one of the best albums they did after their initial golden 71-76 period. Worth getting.

Saw them at the Monsters of Rock festival in 1981. They were third on the bill and totally bombed because they had to follow Slade who were brilliant.

BOC were a top notch live act in 1981 and have pretty much always been (they sell T-shirts stating "On Tour Forever" ). I'm guessing if they bombed at that gig it had more to do with it being a Slade crowd (in England I assume), which isn't hard to imagine.

No new product from the band is about lack of demand unfortunately and interviews with Buck and Eric reveal their disappointment. And missing the long absent Bouchard brothers doesn't help in the writing department. They also reveal a frustration with playing biker weekends and county fairs while former peers like Aerosmith mop up. Personally, I consider the success they did have pretty amazing since the majority of their music is pretty off kilter. I first got hip to them back in the early 70s when they were very much an underground, "critics" band (for better or worse!).

Anyway, I would never argue with anyone if the amazing Blue Oyster Cult were not to their taste. And in a Stones forum -- two very aesthetically different musical approaches (although BOC covered "It's Not Easy" many times in their career). But there are some of us that more than love their music.
