The Moody Blues aren't a favorite, but I like some of their songs. Other songs of theirs worth checking out are "Tuesday Afternoon," "Question," and my personal fave, "The Story in Your Eyes." I also like "Go Now," which was their first hit, and it sounds a bit different because it was in an early, Beatle-esque style and had Denny Laine as lead singer rather than Justin Hayward.

If you like the Moody Blues, you might want to check out the Zombies. I'm sure there are others, but that's the best band I can think of off hand that are sort of on the same track, though they were more into vocal harmonies than symphonic rock.

The album To Our Children's Children's Children. Also think Go Now one of their best. Saw them live early 70s at LSU Baton Rouge & they were the best concert I'd ever seen, terrific musicians & tight; Fleetwood Mac tied them for me when they got it together in '79 (saw them early 70s in New Orleans, no comparison.) I don't think anybody out there ever had the haunting vibe of the Moodies. Oh, try their tune Once Upon A Time (In Your Wildest Dreams) released in '86. smileys with beer

Legend Of A Mind, Story In Your Eyes, Question, Ride My See Saw, I'm Just A Singer In A Rock n Roll Band - those songs are great. Love the band but they cna get a bit twee with all that poetry recital stuff. This garden universe vibrates - indeed!

They should've called "Nights in White Satin" "Musicians on Downers". Not a big fan. To each his own.yawning smiley

This one looks pretty good:

Interestingly enough it seems they totally bypassed their debut pop album which had the hit "Go Now" on it (sung by Denny Laine of Wings fame).

I am a huge fan of the Moody Blues, especially the 7 albums that make up the golden era of their career, from 1967 to 1972. Gypsy, Never Comes The Day, and a great track called Long Summer Days, are all lesser known gems, among many others. Those albums all have that haunting sound, with the mellotron/moog playing a big role along with those beautiful falsetto harmonies. The Moodies definitely paved the way for many others to come. Not sure what kind of weird transformation happened to this band in the 80's, but after 1972 there are only a smattering of songs that I enjoy and many that are quite fluffy, synthy, and ridiculous. I would love for them to put their hearts and solus into one more great work, though I hear though flute player (and fine vocalist) Ray Thomas apparently has left the and with health issues.

"It's such a rainy afternoon
No point in going any-where...."

"Watching and waiting
For a friend to play with
Why have I been alone
So long...."

"As time goes by
You will see
That we're going to be free...."

"O I'd give my life so lightly
For my gentle lady...."

"If only you knew
What's inside of me now
You wouldn't want to know me
Somehow...."

"Bluebird flying high
Tell me what you sing
If you could speak to me
What news would you bring
Of voices in the sky...."

"All I am trying to say
Is we are all we've got...."

"Well I've had dreams enough for one
And I've got love enough for three...."

"I'm a melancholy man
That's what I am
All the world astounds me
And my feet are on the ground...."

"Gypsy of a strange and distant time...."

"Something you can't hide
Says you're lonely
Hidden deep inside...."

"Isn't life strange
A turn of the page...."

The Moodies also seem to have kept out of drug addiction, alcoholism & multiple personal problems that befall many of our favorite musicians...don't recall ever hearing anything....good for them...smileys with beer

They're now arranging cruise ship voyages. They held a cruise that included appearances by themselves, Asia, Ambrosia, Stephen Bishop, Strawbs, the Zombies, Little River Band, and something called the Prog Rock Collective (featuring members of Yes and King Crimson). It sounds like the journey from hell, but whatever floats people's cruise boat.

MB, can't say they are a favorite band, but I like this little known single a lot by them.

Tremendous... Brummie accent and all.

Justin was a cool dude.

Ray Thomas... nice suit and dancing... you don't see that anymore.

Stanly Unwin as a bonus.

And they are from my home town... they lived near where Black Sabbath lived as kids (and me).

I wouldn't even get to seasick on this voyage! Made me queasy just reading it. I wonder if Asia did "Only Slime Will Smell" I mean "Only Time Will Tell". Not really!confused smiley

A friend of mine sent me a copy of Timeless Flight, their recently released 17cd/dvd boxset...lots of video's and music...my favorite part by far are six of their first seven albums(only In Seasrch Of The Lost Chord is missing) in 5.1 surround sound...its nearly like hearing them for the first time!

I'll admit to liking some of their records, but the one and only time I saw them in concert, I couldn't believe how muffled, bassy, and far away the music sounded. Even "I'm Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band", which I take to be the most "raucous" song in their arsenal, barely got my toe a-tappin'.
