Gone too soon. Rest in peace and thanks for all the laughter.

All these deaths. It feels like death is constantly creeping in on you. Which it does, sadly. "Not the Nine O'Clock News" was a brilliant comedy series and Mel Smith was a brilliant comedian and actor.

Saddened to hear this earlier today. The man behind some memorable comedy over the years. Saw him in a play in Bromley a few years ago and he was a great actor too.

NTNON and Mel Smith were great comedy icons. RIP Mel indeed!

Being in the U.S., I remember a popular cable (HBO) comedy show called Not Necessarily The News, which years later I discovered was actually a rip-off of Not The Nine O'Clock News, which of course I now own on DVD [and the rip-off show Not Necessarily is rightly not necessarily obtainable].

Mel also appeared in an episode of one of my all-time favorite UK comedy series, The Young Ones.

He also appeared in the (Rik Mayalland Ade Edomndson) series Filthy, Rich & Catflap.

Alas...

Indeed. Seem to remember a Smith & Jones sketch where they played a couple of rock fans at a Stones concert. Couldn't find on you tube.
Anyway RIP Mel

I remember that sketch also. As I remember the point with the sketch was that they were so far away from the stage that they could hardly see or hear the band so they chatted with each other instead. Or something like that...
It was the 1982 tour, by the way.

And in all the trains and banks they robbed, they never shot anyone.

Sad news, he was a funny guy... I'd post the immortal "I Like Trucking" song video if I knew how!
