Brian Jones' vocals on Yesterday's Papers?
Posted by: swiss ()
Date: July 17, 2013 07:47

hi

I'm listening to Between the Buttons right now, possibly for the first time with headphones--tho I've heard
this album countless hundreds of time since age 3.

It sounds like Brian's singing on Yesterday's Papers--is that right? it's the lisp that gives it away...
I think so, at least. If so, what else did he sing on?

And please don't give me shit for not knowing this--some shit I know; some I don't smiling smiley

thanks
swiss

Who is the genius that put "s" in lisp?

Thanks, Come On -

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's a slightly different lisp. I think Brian's singing back-up vox.
It's not off-key, but somewhat atonal, and just sounds like Brian.

Brian sang back-up vox on a number of songs. However, I will now have to listen my way through the catalog (no hardship) to remember which they were.

Someone told me, it´s Brian who sings the solo line "Who was yesterdays papers?" in the middle of the song; call+response part.

Sorry Swiss for my late response, but yes, according to the lyrics data from Keno, indeed Brian Jones also contributes, together with Keith and Bill, to the vocal harmonies on Yesterday's Papers.

Brian's voice can indeed be easily distinguished from the others, For one, he didn't do a lot of backup vocals and also his lisp and roughness were his "trademark"

I just listened to the song to convince myself of the above. Damn good, those Stones cool smiley

I really doubt that Brian sings on it, it sounds like a blend of Mick and Keith.

Just a case of the singers changing their voices slightly to suit the melody and song IMO.

There hasn't, as far as I am aware, been any mention by anyone involved in the sessions that Brian sings on Yesterday's Papers or any song on Between The Buttons.

According keno's web site:

Lead Vocal: Mick Jagger Harpsichord, Marimbas, Bells, Vocal Sample: Brian Jones Electric Guitar: Keith Richards Bass, Vocal Sample: Bill Wyman Drums: Charlie Watts Vocal Harmonies: Brian Jones, Keith Richards & Bill Wyman

Please avoid using Keno's credits! The amount of incorrect info on them renders them mostly useless. smileys with beer

Brian's contributions to the Stones music is food for Jones scholars like HM. But even then there will remain many doubts.

Indeed.

The ultimate source would be the multi track tapes, or mixdowns of those multi tracks as heard on the likes of the Satanic Sessions bootleg box sets.

Many an interesting discovery in just those two box sets.

There are definitely voices other than Mick's or Keith's on this tune. I have wondered about this for years. My guess is Bill, but only a guess.

Yes, Mick and Keith have sang in the same voice on every song they've ever sang. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

The middle part call and response is definately not Mick. He may sing in different styles, but his voice is always recognizable. That said, my gues it is Brian and Keith in the left channel (or Brian double tracked) and Bill in the right channel.

Now this is just me but it seems very clear that's Keith singing "He don't know if its right or wrong..lines"....of course I could be wrong..

As we know it's Brian on 'Walking the dog', I can also hear that same voice on 'Diddley Daddy'...he's sounding like a chain-saw....don't know how anyone can reach that voice on any other recorded song...
