Could not agree with you more. That was one of the first albums I had by JB. Started a major "thing" with me. Get Star Time the Box Set. It is killer and has itself some INCREDIBLE Live trax on it.
Other great live albums are the two early JB albums.
Good live albums:
Elvis in Vegas '68 (is half of the "From Memphis to Vegas")
Viva Roxy Music
Kick Out The Jams @#$%& - MC5
Rock'n Roll Animal, Live - the entire Lou Reed concert from the 70's
What do you want from Live - Tubes
the first Jane's Addiction on Triple X
Allman Bros at Fillmore

I think the Livealbums nowadays all suck. Bands rely so much on studio chicanery now that they have a hard time pulling it off in person. R. Randolph being one exception. "Wetlands" rox. The Strokes I bet would do a good one too. But even they depend on Casablanca's effect on the vox. Do they do that live too? Hav never seen them live.

The Byrds - Live at the Fillmore (1969)
Taj Mahal - The Real Thing (1971)
Miles Davis - Isle Of Wight (Don't know if it's an official release?)

Superb reply...I'll try the Star Time box set.
Would you recommend the james Brown Funk Power cd? or Funky good time by the JB's?
Elvis 68 is superb...My Babe rocks! Get 'Thats the way it is' DVD...blinding!
the Faces live album is good and I always wanted to try the Allman Bros.
Also try 'the animals' at the club a go-go in Newcastle. One side they play the kids part of the club(!) then on the next side they get rat arsed and play with some ol blues guy (who's name escapes me!)

Any others.....

ablett I'm not sure which those two albums are and believe me I KNOW James Brown! There are so many reisues on cheap labels that are the same shows over and over. Even he himself has reissued some of his own tunes; cleaned them up so to speak. E.g "I'm superbad".
His career can be divided very roughly into four chapters. The first with the F;ames where he still does the shorter R&B bluesy tunes. But Live he would turn them into operas. Then with basically the same coregroup he added St Clair Pickney, Pee wee Ellis, the Parker bros (he only got Maceo because he actually wanted Melvyn on drums LOL). With them came the big revolution of the sound, the one chord groove: Papa's got a brand new bag, I got you etc. Then came the big walkout of the band. he lost the horns and had to quickly get a new band, He got a guitar band basically. The toughest baddest tightest band ever on the planet! Clyde Stubblefield, Jabo Starks, Odum, Fred Wesley and last but not least the Collins brothers. Bootsy. Then the fourth chapetr unites it all and also adds th newer artists. The album you have is the third band, the best IMO. They are incredible.
But I MUST tell you about the best Livealbum of all time. It is very hard to find. It does not exist on CD and even on ebay on vinyl it still costs a LOT. It is by the Four Tops. Called "Live" from 65 or 66 at the Roostertail in Detroit. They do a version of "I left my heart in San Francisco" which makes you cry. And "Ask the Lonely" is just as good. That album IMO is always worth 100 dollars.

Kiss - ALIVE (1975)

Raw, pure energy. That album rocks like hell.

ALIVE II from 1977 is also very very good.
