Here's something you don't see very often. It's a 49-star flag. Official flag of the United States from July 4, 1959 to July 4, 1960.

I was born on the last day the United States had a 48-star flag. I've always liked that design. It has a nice symmetry.

Happy fourth to you too Tatters, and all the rest of the US of A types here.
It's always a big event here in the nation's Capitol, used to go down to the mall to hear the Beach Boys years ago for the Capital Fourth, when it was a real party.
Sadly, they decided it had to be a family event, so now he we have American Idol also rans and, I think, Barry Manilow this year.
Oh well, there's always the local festival with cheap beer, cotton candy, and fireworks.
Have fun, everyone!

My boss is making me work. 
He shuts everything down for Cinco de Mayo, but 4th of July is a work-yo-ass-off day on his calendar. I don't really ever do anything on the 4th, so it's not a crushing blow, but I do love a good day off. Something I haven't had in 2 weeks, so I had been counting the days to the 4th.
