Axe To Grind

This was to have been a title of a thread about a particular song.

I'll do the thread another time under "Bone to pick".

Because, more importantly for the time being,........

Why is a guitar called an axe?

Hmm, I don't know where that term originated, but I never ever referred to my bass or guitar as an "axe". Non-musicians sometimes do that, but guitars are not medieval weapons. Now, I've heard the term "Hammer of the Gods", which refers specificially to Led Zeppelin's music.

However, there are a few famous examples of Mr. Keith Richards wielding his guitar as a baseball bat--see "Let's Spend the Night Together (the movie)" for an example LOL.

It's short and simple because most rock stars cant pronounce the word guitar.

That primarily applies to country players--they still pronounce it GIT-tar. (Sorry, it's a pet peeve).

I did OK for about four days, but fell off the wagon on Friday. Cutting back is one thing, but totally quitting is something else entirely. I have three addictions--nicotine, caffeine (lots of coffee), and alcohol. What a combo. Each of these habits is deeply ingrained in my lifestyle. Thanks for asking, Rockman.

Yeah it's nice to get off the booze every now and then. Ya start to remember things again like ya middle name and stuff like that. Mine's eeerrr um eeerrr ...Raymond by the way.

Yeah, a break does one good. As for middle names, too many folks dislike theirs. Mine is unusual, and my parents never could tell me where they got it, but it's the first name of a famous German general of WWII. Any guesses?

Happy Jack is the winner! Yes, it is Erwin, the first name of Rommel. Sehr gut. Now, get back in your PzKfW and capture Tobruk. Heia safari.
