OT: Toto

I just passed the LA band Toto by, live at Drontheim`s central square, last nigh.
- Couldn`t resist stopping for a listen. -Oh, oh, oh! Obscure album tracks with a lot of guitar noodling and some heavy effects, interrupted by a ballad every now and then, and then a megahit; say "Rosanna", or "Africa". I was really waiting to hear "Hold the Line", but ran out of patience...

Ive always liked Toto in the 80th, but the new stuff
is a little bit bizarre, no trace from hits like Rosanna...
this is probably the sad fate of 80th bands...have seen
Bob Geldof last week another 80th icon, but he was pretty cool!
much folk and rock and all the good songs like great song of
indifference...was really worthwhile

Toto are one of the worst bands ever. I witnessed Toto members trying to play Brubeck and it sounded ridiculous. And Africa is one of the worst songs in the history of popular music.

Hold The Line is an amazing song. Always loved that one. I read that Toto (or members of) were the studio band for Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Toto is one of my favorite bands. I saw them 2x live (1990 + 1999), the 1st time was a bit disappointing, because their leadsinger to that time was an idiot. And the 2nd time was an absolute killer concert, because they reunited with Bobby Kimball again.

thats true. the members of toto have played on 1,000s of albums. it seemed like every album in the late 70's until the early 90's had at least 1 member of toto on it.

Huge players in Boz Skaggs Silk Degrees........believe a couple members helped in writing Lowdown or Lido Shuffle.

Popular FM radio ran them into the ground. I saw em in Manchester 2002 and listened to them in 1980. White Sister is not bad live.

Jeff Porcaro was an amazing drummer.
Steve Lukather ditto on guitar.
Great sessionmusicians who wrote some catchy pop tunes.
And Human Nature is an absolute brilliant song.

Saw them in concert once...pretty aweful.
David Paich wasn't even in the band anymore.
