They just don't like their recent albums....!

From 1981's Tattoo You on it's a pity The Stones aren't playing on their recent tours from recent more works such as: Steel Wheels, Bridges or ABB, apart from maybe You got me Rocking from VL which gets an airing sometimes.
So many other great songs such as Mixed Emotions, Rock & a hard place, saint of me, out of control, Back of my hand and outtakes such as Fancy man blues & Wish I'd never met you would be great to hear to mix up the set list a bit more beyond TD, Miss You, Satisfaction, SMU & HTW.

pool's in but the patio ain't dry

celebrating the bands 50th anniversary they really should have picked at least 1 song from each album to at least rotate in and out of the set. shame that didn't happen though.

For a band that tours after a 5 year break it is obviously too difficult to rotate their setlist more than they actually did. And even the one-offs they did actually sounded quite shaky more often than not. That's the curse when you're not an active band anymore, don't rehearse or just play together between tours.

It woulod be great if they played songs from 83 onwards, but they will not do it. A shame.

Even 1989 looks "adventurous" in that respect now, with Harlem Shuffle, Undercover and One Hit (only a few times)...

B2B wouldn't be a problem (two semi-classics with OOC and SOM) but I'm not sure what I'd want them to play from ABB...

ABB has a lot of songs that could work live, but only 100 (myself included) out of 20.000 people would be intrested.
Driving too fast, look what the cat dragged in, dangerous beauty, she saw me coming. Very intresting could be: laugh, I nearly died.
Streets of love is the worst song on the album, but I thought it worked very well live.

Windmelody - Most people who attend and pay these prices do not want to hear 1983 onward. I would not mind but the majority of the fans that go don't even know When the Whip Comes Down.

The general public stopped buying new Stones albums after Tatoo You.

Are you saying everyone doesn't own Steel Wheels?!!

I do feel kind of odd for having Voodoo Lounge, Bridges To Babylon, and A Bigger Bang but not Undercover, Dirty Work and Steel Wheels.

The 2013 Rolling Stones are the world's greatest Rolling Stones tribute band

Do you seriously believe that anyone shelling out $600 bucks for these tickets just can't wait to hear "Gunface" and "Has Anybody Seen My Baby"? We can argue here about the quality of their later releases, but like it or not, no album since Tattoo You - and particularly none from Voodoo on - has had the slightest impact on the general culture in the way the pre-1982 stuff has. The band tacitly acknowledge this themselves by their failure to include a single track from this period in their current live show, save the token two from GRRR, which will not see the light of day again as soon as they are not promoting that particular product.

the rolling stones have always had incredible taste in music. for so many years i took interviews with them as ways to discover other incredible music. and how can anyone quarrel with their judgement of their output over the last 30 years?

You don't hear "Anybody seen my baby" anymore 'cause Mick has found her in the meantime.

Wait til this new publishing deal bears fruit, and you'll be hearing things like 'Too Much Blood' in tampax ads, 'Had it with you' in marriage guidance counselling commercials, 'Gunface' used to promote the NRA, 'Thief in the Night' promoting burglar alarms and 'Sex Drive' as the background for a Viagra promotion.

The result will be all the corporate attendees will be screaming requests for these newly discovered songs on the next tour.

Exactly. Do you remember a track called Don't Stop? It was performed at every arena and stadium show on the Licks Tour, but hasn't been heard of since. Hmm, I wonder what happened to it? winking smiley

My guess is that most people at the Stones' US concerts had attended concerts in the past 25 years and/or have seen the concert documentaries. Mixed Emotions was #5 on the US charts, and number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Love Is Strong received substantial radio and TV play (even though they didn't always play that well live). Rough Justice was played at the Super Bowl. A bunch of their other songs have been played well live (like Out of Control) and featured in concert films.

The audience would be fine with many of the songs from the past 25 years. For whatever reason, Mick doesn't want to play them.

Actually, I think Brad Pitt found her.

Mick seems unwilling to challenge the notion
of what The Stones are all about these days,
when it comes to songs. They are no longer
an active band of today, which they COULD have been,
if they played their greatest songs from their later stuff.
Instead, they see each other every 5 years,
playing their late 60s stuff.

So many of the 'rare' songs from 50 & Counting could be played every single night to wonderful audience reception..

    * Let It Bleed
    * Respectable
    * Around and Around
    * Street Fighting Man
    * Love In Vain
    * Little Queenie
    * That's How Strong My Love Is
    * The Last Time
    * Little Red Rooster
    * Can't You Hear Me Knocking

The stuff from the past 20 years is what kills me. SOOooo many great songs that don't make the cut...

    * She Was Hot
    * Had It With You
    * Jump On Top Of Me
    * Let Me Down Slow
    * Sad Sad Sad (with loud guitars for the first time ever)
    * Sparks Will Fly
    * Lowdown
    * Under The Radar
    * Might As Well Get Juiced

A list of the 30 bestselling songs by them on Itunes does not have a single song released after Tatoo You.
Maybe they're basing their idea of what fans want on the sales of the tracks.

The same is true on Amazon

(in each case i'm not counting doom & gloom).

The most popular post-Tatoo You song on Itunes is "Harlem Shuffle"
On Amazon it's "Laugh, I nearly..."

Maybe they just read their sales charts to see what people like.

How about "Let It Loose" for laxatives?

They're last UK #1 was VOODOO LOUNGE. Their last US #1 was TATTOO YOU. Their last UK and US #1 was EMOTIONAL RESCUE.

Perhaps Canada likes the Stones better - A BIGGER BANG was their last Canadian #1.

Their most famous (if not best) songs are from the distant past. With a 21 or 22 song set list - it is impossible to please everyone. Look at the famous songs they didn't play on a nightly basis - Angie, As Tears Go By, The Last Time, Beast of Burden, Shattered, Waiting on a Friend, Let's Spend the Night Together, Under My Thumb, Lady Jane, Time Is On My Side, All Down the Line, Heartbreaker, Hang Fire, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Ruby Tuesday, Street Fighting Man, etc. Most acts don't have THAT many famous songs, let alone that many songs they could leave out of their act. As much as I love them, they have not had consistent success on the charts - in spite of some fine music.

Ha ha. For the amount of money they're charging they'd BETTER please everyone! I'd demand my money back. 50 And Counting The Lack Of Songs Post-1981 Tour. It's a tour with 20 years worth of songs...

And that worked really well for them(just saw and enjoyed the Epitaph bluray).
But that wouldn't work for the Stones. Their discography is a totally different animal.
