70 in 2013 is not old.
In 1960 it might have been.

These days 85 is old, so they will perform until 2028. And by that time 85 won't be an old age anymore.
So...

Well, the end will come sometime. But, honestly, i don't see any reason the Stones to not carry on the tour. We have to wait and see. And i hope that we will see, attend and enjoy next tour's legs.

As for what Max'sKansasCity says about the "eschatological" predictions, i just notice that there are some much more recent than '72 or '83. Allow me to remind of some of them:

1. "This will be the last tour, because the're are old and the audiences are not willing to pay for see aging rockers, anymore". (The "chorus" on every Stones tour since 1989. THE FACT: Since then, the Stones have played live for 27 million people).

2. "There is no place for them in the music industry of 21h century". (THE FACT: Top grossing live act on the first decade of 21th century, the Rolling Stones).

3. "No Stones anymore, because Ronnie is an alcoholic who cannot play guitar" (Now, on "50 & Counting tour" is general admission that Ronnie's guitar work is excellent).

4. "No tours any longer, because Charlie don't want to do it anymore" (Another "chorus")

5. "What Keith says against Mick in his book is a clear signalling of the end of the Stones. No Stones anymore."

6. "Celebrating the 50 years with gigs? No way. The band is almost dissolved now and Keith cannot play." (Before the announcement of the two gigs at O2 arena)

7. "What? Another Stones compilation? Who the hell will buy it? Who on earth needs another compilation, an expensive 3CD? It's a joke. The Stones have jumped the shark. They don't know what they're doing".

(THE FACT: "Grrr!" has sold 1.4 million copies worldwide, so far. What does this number mean nowadays? I just say that, according to the Global Chart - Mediattrafic, by 1,4 million copies sold, an album has an assured potition on Top 30 best selling albums of a year).

8. "The Stones will play in half- empty arenas in North America and this will be their sad end" (THE FACT: The Stones played in filled venues, despite the highest, annoying average price per ticket - $346. I'm not happy for the prices of course, but that's another story).

9. "The '50 & counting' tour is going to be a big financial disaster that probably brings the end of the Stones career" (THE FACT: with gross $ 126,182,391 after just 23 arena gigs, this round could be the most profitable arena tour ever!).

10. "Due to their greediness, the Stones are finishing. Promoters are not willing to work with the basstards who ask so much money as guarantee".

(THE FACT: Knowing what the Stones are asking, before tour's start AEG stated that expected gross between $4 and $5 million per show, in North America. Finally, the average gross per show was closer to the maximum of AEG's expectations: $4,860,854...

I notice only 10, i could notice 100...

Once again: Noone knows when the end will come. Maybe today, maybe in two years from now. But i already laugh, thinking that so many "prophets of evil", who were "forecasting" the end in 1990 or in 2006, will say: "I knew it... I told you"...

Nice little clip.
I have loved this tour and I hope others get a chance to see them
later in the year. Speaking as one who paid a fortune to see them in Anaheim-it was worth it. I have framed my ticket and armband for the pit and still can not get over that incredible night. Every time I hear a Stones song, that happy night comes back to me. Definitely one of the best nights of my life!

Stonehearted,

Nice post. I think it all comes down to health. As long as your health holds out-you are still fine. Certainly as you get old, your body reminds you-you are not young anymore. I am officially "retired" as I will collect SS Benefits this year, but I am still working, just like The Rolling Stones.
Still crazy in love with their music. I just look at the old blues legends, really they have set the pace, I feel.
The Stones are old-so am I. I am in good company.

Who is Noone? Does Noone know something no one else knows? I'd like to meet this Noone person. He's mentioned here a lot, yet no one seems to really know who he is other than some Peter, who I do not believe has ever had anything to do with the Stones, at least, no one has ever said it.

I was there last night 4 rows from the stage. If we hadn't have known, there's no way would anyone would have said Jagger was 2 weeks short of his 70th. The way he sang and swaggered around the stage was amazing. If this is the end (and I doubt it) I'm very glad I was there last night. Very impressed with the set list and the way the songs came over live. Rich.

It doesn't matter to me how old they are or will be in the future, I will always be a fan and if they are anywhere near me, I will attend.

I would go and see them even if they are doing a "Steel Wheelchairs Tour 2066".

I would even go to watch their corpses play a show. I would go even if I were a corpse myself.

Well, GasLightStreet, until we find "mr Noone", i think we can ask someone about the negotiations between the Stones and promoters. I mean the President of the USA. As Mick said at Verizon Center, Obama always is listening in. So he knows everything.

This already printed in the press during the Tour of Europe 1973!

"This already printed in the press during the Tour of Europe 1973!"

Yes, also i think the Press called them "veterans" then... And "Goats Head Soup" was supposily a "bad" album... And Mick was wearing these "ala Bowie" and "ala Slade" clothes because he was an embarrassed "veteran", trying to attract new people by some "glam rock" style...

Everybody heard that, but it isn't the only thing he and other Stones have said in the last few days, and other quotes suggest that they may be playing live again before too long. Possibly the last of the "50-and-counting" format shows, though.

It WAS the last night of the tour as currently scheduled. I'm assuming that's what he meant. No reason why the tour should not continue to have as many legs as a centipede, though!

I have thought all along that Stones will come to Tokyo Dome in this November as a part of tour of Australasia.

I am afraid that was not Stones.
I was informed that was Paul McCartney.

If I think proactively, Stones and McCartney were always coming to Tokyo about a month later for each other.winking smiley

Having seen the Hyde Park 13/7 consert - this was not the last consert.

They are in great shape, play very well - they are full of energy, simply the best of them all.

To those who only judge on youtube videos, you miss it all - you can not compare a youtube video with a real consert.

I am very happy that I did go to HP and looking forward to a couple of arena shows in the end of the year.

Yes - I can confirm that absolutely.

I was at Hyde Park #2 too and I was also at the O2 on 26 Aug. 2007.

At the end of the O2 show I had the feeling this might have been the last time.

Now, at the end of the Hyde Park #2 show I had the feeling there will be more shows than we can imagine ..... smiling smiley

Honestly speaking I was also surprised to hear him say that and he also said in WA DC that this is the LAST show on the US Tour.
Furthermore what made me think that it might be the last show was that they did the final bow with and then without Mick Taylor. It seemed to be that there is at least a long rest before something might be going on.
I remember so many different rumours leaked before the US tour and at the end some cities did not make it and some others came up.
For my feeling I do think that we might get a number of European shows, but it could be a truncated show like the two at Hyde Park with only 19 songs(ok we call it curfew reasons). Anyway time will tell and it is NOT on our side.eye rolling smiley
