Stones song choice in 82 - Why did they skip Chantilly lace after 30.06.1982 ?

Hallo,

as the 82 fans will now, the group used to play "Chantilly lace" in 1982.
The last time was in Frankfurt, 30.06.1982.
The concert on 01.07.1982, still in Frankfurt, the song was not played and,
in fact, never again. So they played in june 82 all the time, but not in
july 82.

Anybody knows how the boys take these (and similial) decisions ?
Anybody has a hint ?
Or on similiar issues (Lies in 78, Heartbreaker in Europe 73, US 75) ?

main reasons for dropping a song are either the band doesn't feel comfortable playing it, or the audience reaction is not what you expect. They dropped Chantilly Lace and added Angie. For the Italian shows they even dropped Little T&A.

They were playing 3 covers in a row that the crowd basically didnt know - although at least 20 Flight rock and Go-Go were on the just-released live album.

3 back to back songs in a stadium that most people arent familiar with isnt a very good idea.

They also tend to shorten shows as the tour progresses, discarding songs that dont work either for them or the audience. "Let It Bleed" was also played for the first few weeks of the European tour

They added "Angie" later on in the set for the last 3 weeks of the tour and that obviously worked better.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. You're asking why those songs were dropped? In future tours they had new albums, so more new songs to play, so obviously some older ones get discarded. Theres no mystery about that. Heartbreaker has been played several times since 1995.

from the handful of (admittedly iffy sounding audience sourced) versions of CL I've heard, it's pretty obvious why it was dropped. Interesting idea...poor execution.

I agree T&A, unliek what they have done with other well known RNR, I thought they savaged Chantilly Lace, making it at once unrecognizable and unlikeale. I searced long and hard for this, especailly after the revelation of Hound Dog on Handsome Girls that redefined the song for me. Ultimately, it was a disappointment.

might be the only time that Stu was allowed to open a song on stage (even cued by Mick)...that was a nice gesture for what would turn out to be Stu's swan song tour....
