"Worried About You" as an opener?
Posted by: carlito ()

Picture this...

The lights go down, one light comes on, right on Mick, playing the keyboard and singing the intro.

Until the drum starts kicking in, and then it's still only Mick and Charlie..

Then the "I'm worried" chorus starts, and Keith and Ronnie walk out and join in on that.

I think this could be a great opener!

Sorry but I far from agree.

This song is overated IMO anyway but would hardly set the mood for an exciting night - even if I thought it was as good as many others about these parts.

Slow songs for the Stones are not good openers.

I still question the move of opening with NFA during Voodoo.

A really dirty, bitching version of "Sad sad sad" would hit the spot as an opener!

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

They already used that song to open a show..it was at El Mocambo in 1977.
I prefer the studio version

Great song. Must be played live, but not as an opener!

Where did you get this info? The opener the first night was Route 66, second night Honky Tonk Women.

on the CD, Worried about you appears first.

Wrong, Route 66 was the opener on that show. The tracklisting on your cd is not correct.

I have two editions of El Mocambo and on each of them Worried about you is on first position.
Which version do you have ?

So the soundboard tapes starts with WOY, the show didn't.

doesnt mean shit. You have a recording of part of the show, not the full concert.

WAY would be a bad opener and difficult to pull off anyway because of the falsetto. I think Mick's vocal cords would have to be 'warmed' up with a few more songs before attempting that one.

They are my 'holy grail.'

well..it 'exists' in the sense that both nights were taped for Love You Live

But only 30 minutes of one of the shows has ever circulated in any form (ie, soundboard). Nothing from either night as an audience recording

back to the topic at hand - WAY would totally blow as an opener. the stones will never open a show with a slow tune...makes no sense at all. Next?

It would never work as an opener because it barely works as any part of the set-list in general.

Micks falsetto ain't what it used to be.

Listen to any recent live performances of this song, and you almost cringe when Mick yelps out "Baby"!!! sad smiley
I used to love this song as part of Tattoo You, but the recent live versions have tainted my enthusiasm.

Same goes with Can't You Hear Me Knocking. I refuse to listen to any Ronnie version.

They should open with " Mothers little Helper", "We Love You" "Had it with you",but I exspect it will be "ITS ALL OVER NOW"

Honky Tonk Women will open the '05/06 tour shows.

Midnight Rambler.... Mick playing the harp & Keith bending strings in the dark. No lights until Keith hits the first chord, then single spot light on him. When Mick comes back with the harp again single spot light on him. Then a couple of flash pots explode, and light up the whole stage. A good 10-12 minute version full of blues.

I know they did this once at the theater show in Sydney - but as a rule they'd never open with a long song (no MR, SFTD)...they correctly like to do a "quick blast" for openers...

I think they should open with: Shaddered - MLC

yeah, they did that at SB in 99 - but they butchered it like they have since about '82....

I hear it's going to be "Undercover".

yeah, right - for the first show and then never again! So funny about that song - Jagger wins the first battle to get it in the setlist every tour and then Keith wins the war by getting it out again....

But then with Mick coming from beneath the stage, like with SFTD on the Voodoo Lounge tour, playing his harp. Then Keith starts the song and everybody comes on stage and BANG the show starts.
I know this will not hapen because as T&A says they will open with a quick blast but wouldn't it be awesome like this?!?!!?!

I never really liked Shattered. The lyrics are really boring IMHO.

Cheers,
Wuudy

God, I hope the opening song is not Undercover. The opening song has to be a classic Stone's song! Undercover was a letdown after Tattoo You. I don't think they ever commercially recovered from that album.

I'd like to see them start with She Said Yeah,
Have Mercy, or Silver Train.
and then in the middle, I'd like to hear
about 8 Chuck Berry songs in a row.
Carol, Route 66, Little Queenie, Let it Rock,
Talkin 'bout you, Sweet Little 16, Around and Around,
(then pick another one, maybe Jaugar and Thunderbird?).
Then again, like someone else posted, I could hear them play Let it Rock all night.
