Have the Quo aged better than the Stones?

Obviously, I'm not saying that the Quo are better than the Stones. There is no comparation between the legacy of both bands.

The Quo are pretty solid, however, and a rough and pure rock and roll band.

My point is, if you hear the Quo playing live along the years, there is no big difference in their sound. Is basically the same, without dramatic declines. Parfitt - Rossi guitar skills are as strong as ever. Rossi vocals are basically the same.

We can't say the same thing about the Stones. Ok, they are playing very well, they sound good and decent. But, come on, Mick vocals can't resist comparation with the Mick of the old days. And well, Keith. Good effort for him, very laudable, but we all know that he can't even look at the ghost of his golden age.

What do you think?

(again, I insist, as historical band, The Stones are much better than the Quo)

and this surprises you for a band with a name like this?

They cannot be compared. They play in different leagues.

It's like saying my grandmother's knitting has aged better than my grandfather's pole vault skills.... Kind of irrelevant IMO

Excellent analogy.

Have you heard their new single?

"As we say in England, it can get a bit trainspottery"

The single answers the question.

I found a YouTube clip of the Quo doing "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 2009,and they do sound good. It looks like mostly the original members. They are a tighter unit overall than the Stones, but they may have been to begin with. They don't have better material, but they play more evenly.

The big difference between the Stones and most other bands is that they (other bands) don't take 2-5 year off between tours and that they spend more than four weeks in the studio every decade.

Status Quo today. Reunion, with the original members.

and most other bands don't wait 40 years to invite back their best guitarist. some do, i realize.

Their latest single and film project got such a kicking on their official message board, they closed the forum down.

I like early '70s Quo though, Piledriver is a great album.

If you start out as the Rolling Stones, you can slide a little, coast a little, not be at your peak, but you are still the Rolling Stones.

If you start out as Status Quo, you better not slide, but more important, who cares?

Holy crap! That video of the quo is just awful. They turned into the Dutch band BZN, and that's by any means not a compliment!

Love Quo. But the Stones would never change the lyrics of one of their classic tunes and perform it to advertise a supermarket chain."down, down, prices are down".Sad.

as for Mick's voice compared to the "old days", you certainly must not be comparing it to the Some Girls and Tattoo You tours, as his voice live is much better than it was back then when he wasn't taking care of himself/his voice live

But I would still go and see the classic Quo lineup- would have to put this out if my mind with alcohol!

In defence of The Quo I think they produced
some great singles during their Golden period
which lasted from the late 60s throughout the
70s. Tracks such as 'In My Chair' , 'Down The
Dustpipe', 'Living On An Island' are three that
spring to mind.

The modern Quo I betcha can still put on a
belter of a show. The two main front men seem
to genuinely get on with each other and always
look as though they just enjoy what they do.
Which is kinda refreshing compared to the
simmering 'can't-stand-each-other' tension
between the Glimmer Twins.

Don't know about the Rice Krispies advert
though... oops sorry the Corn Flake advert

They both have many hits played in open g tuning.

Apart from there recent music (only saw that clip you guys put up) I saw the Quo somewhere around 2007, I think, and it was a fantastic show! Great atmosphere, there fans were great and when they hit there warhorse section at the end I couldn't stop jumping around. It was so much fun!
Which made me realise that, even though it might be a bit annoying for us hardcore fans, the warhorse section at the end of the stones concert is probably the best part for 95% of the crowd so they shouldn't change it....

Cheers,
Wuudy

Status Quo play much better than the Stones these days, simply because they are touring endlessly.

Forget the new albums. They play their old stuff with conviction without backing misicians.

But the Stones are doing way better than I expected, and of course thdy got the better songs.

I saw Quo many times live, pretty good live band!
Got once the chance to meet them backstage, very friendly guys.
You can not compare Quo with the Stones, completely different.
