Thank you! it will probably be even better since a lot of the crowd was thinking about a hockey game the other night.

Good for you both CindyC, I'm sure he'll have a great time and good memories. My son went to see The Who with his father when he was twelve and he still has a poster of the band on his bedroom wall. Now he's almost 15 (next month) and bigger than me and we're going to see the Stones together next week. He's also really into guitar now, so he's very excited about the concert. It took a little while, but he is now a big Stones fan, so keep working on your son and have fun!

The Stones are a good influence on a 15 year old. They are like pure innocent folk music compared to the awful rap and other crap music out there today. The old Led Zep records also are so under produced and folky compared to todays contrived aural assault

How tall is he?

Have the best time!!

Due to yesterday's $85 ticket drop, I'm taking my boy to his first Rolling Stones concert tonight. Granted I'm WAY more excited than he is (ok to be fair, he barely wants to go), and it's probably going to be more of a pain in the butt than anything, but it's a big day for me to be able to share this with him.

I'm bringing earplugs just in case it's too loud, and his ipod in case he gets bored. I think he'll be pleasantly surprised though.

YIPPEE!!!

thumbs up

Well, he does like the awful rap and other crap, as you put it...but, not all of it is bad. Besides, if I want him to listen to my music, then I have to listen to his occasionally. I usually just smile and tell him...that was interesting.cool smiley

After hanging around this board for 12 or 13 years, I finally had the pleasure of meeting The woman who created one of the most popular threads ever created on IORR.
"What are you listening to this very second ?" It's coming up on 100,000 views and over 7600 posts. I do not know for sure but I bet that is a record,BV should know.

I met Cindyc and her son before friday night's show, as mentioned earlier a pleasure. Considering we only live about 15 miles apart Im sure we must have crossed paths a least a few times since we have probably been too most of the same shows. I might have even accidently kicked up sand in her face at Good Harbor and Longs beaches in Gloucester.

I can't wait to hear what your son thought of the whole experience. I have turned many younger kids onto the Boys over the years and they are still going. There were at least 9 of my Former Stones students at the show friday night.

I am proud that I was the person who took them to thier 1st.

Again Great to meet you and your son CINDYC

Hi - hope everyone had a nice Father's Day!

Thanks everyone for asking about the show.

So Friday was a bit of a bust actually. Our $85 tickets were loge 11 which were ok, but knowing that we were able to get such good seats on Wednesday we moved to section 21 which was a perfect side view on Keith's side!

Sadly, my son was pretty freaked out by the whole experience. I would say he's a bit of a nervous, cautious kid. He saw a lot of drunk people, some weirdly dressed etc. We had to hang around out front for a bit since my boyfriend was trying for find a last minute ticket and my son saw some scalpers nearly getting into a fight, screaming and swearing at each other He wanted to go home before we even entered the theater.

As soon as the lights went down and the video started, that was it for him, it was WAY too loud. When he was younger he has sensory issues with loud noises. Fireworks were too much for him even, but he seemed to outgrow it for the most part. Before the fan video was over, we were in the stairwell trying to get the earplugs in, but couldn't. He didn't want to go back inside and I didn't force him. We stayed in the stairwell listening for a while, but then since my boyfriend couldn't get a ticket, we just left. I was walking out when WTWCD came on, bummer since I don't think I've seen that one live yet. I don't even know if I actually saw Ronnie or Charlie. Section 21 was so perfect too!!!

I felt more bad for my son than disappointed. He hardly ever gets freaked out, plus he was really embarrassed and felt bad that I couldn't watch.

So I guess concerts aren't going to be his "thing". It sounds like everyone else had a good experience though. Glad to hear everyone had fun. It sounded great from the stairwell!

Virgil, it was so nice to meet you finally! Good Harbor and Long Beach are my two favorite beaches so you probably DID kick sand on me at some point! Thanks again for all your great ticket advice too.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

I've been to four Rolling Stones concerts since December.

Show 1: Barclays: Saw two songs, left the show in an ambulance, spent night in the hospital.

Show 2: Newark, night two. Awesome!

Show 3: Boston, night one. Awesome!

Show 4: Boston, night two. Sat in seats, saw 20 seconds of fan video, saw M & K from doorway, heard 7 songs.

So I'm two for four!

Cindy,

You should be proud of yourself for respecting his wishes and not returning.
My son had the same type of experience at about the same age a few years ago.
It can be too much sensory overload, coupled with the issues he encountered outside before the show, causing anxiety and a sense of fear that a kid that age just doesn't need to try to overcome.

Don't worry and please tell him not to worry.
My son, now three years later, is starting to enjoy live concerts on his own terms.
And he wears earplugs!

Be well and thanks for sharing such a personal story.

Sorry to hear that, Cindy. Maybe your son is just too young for rock concerts? Maybe he should start out with a band more suitable for his age to get the hang of it? Anyway, best wishes.

Yes, i agree. I just really wanted him to see the RS and I think this might have been his last chance, so I went against my better judgement. I don't think it's too young for every kid. My ex-husband was there with a friend and his 12 year old boy who had a great time.

A few months ago I went to a hip-hop show and came really close to leaving when I first got in because there were way to many people and there was a lot of pushing. It was getting a little out of control. I decided to just try hanging in there for a little and found a decent spot in the back and was able to enjoy the show. I can understand that feeling of needing to get out of there though.

Thanks Kurt for your nice words. I was feeling a bit like he worst mom ever for making him go plus and guilty too because I was pretty bummed to have to leave.

But my good mom side was able to make him feel better pretty quickly and I do think for him, it was the right decision to leave. Oh well, we tried right? LOL. smileys with beer

"So I guess concerts aren't going to be his "thing""

maybe at the moment but it could changed I hope for him. Such incredible moments to live.

I brought my daughter to concerts when she was 7 only.
We saw Depeche Mode 3 times (last one was this saturday : a fantastic performance), Madonna and others. DM again next january. Now she is 14.

"we know it's a bit late but we hope you don't mind if we stay"

Better take those kids to a classical music concert hall, or even better to one of those great Mozart operas. I suggest Don Giovanni, Cosi fan tutte and the Magic flute. Success guaranteed.

No doubt.
Go out for a pizza, just the two of you, listen to some Stones on the way there and back and tell him how much you love him.
