Hopefully the reaction to Memory Motel will convince Jagger that his audience knows more than 10 Stones songs!

Memory Motel

The musical and non-musical - emotional - aspects of the song and its rendition unite on a higher level. Most moving. With a fresh impact.
[Edit: By the way, very nice to hear Mick and Keith alternate on vocals.]

(This song, in my outlook, in fact, one of three real gems, and among these three, this one the very best, from an album I have to admit that I am a little reserved to. However, a live presentation of other songs might modify my evaluation of songs, so I would certainly like to experience songs outside the three "Memory Hotel" "Hot Stuff" and "Fool to Cry". )

I am pleased by the basis for the following post

Nice "ringing" guitar sound (enhanced by the drums) as some sonic wall gave me a flavour of some other period than the studio song's and lifted my experience, both due to the version in itself and by the difference.

After seeing 2 shows in Boston, I am now back home in New Hampshire feeling sad and depressed. The first night I got in the pit, and tonight's 85.00 ticket got me 10 rows up on loge 1 so great seats to both shows. This was my 26th show since 1981 and I just know that I will never see them play live again. Goodbye Boston.

I went on Wednesday , could have gone Friday also but I was depressed after Wednesdays show so I felt that if I went on Friday , Doom and Gloom would have been the title of my autobiography . Thanks for all the memories .

In his review, Robert Bagel wrote that this show has been the "least appealing" so far.

I don't know, form the clips it sound pretty much of a great show!

Here's "Gimme Shelter":

"Sympathy For The Devil" (on night 1 has been much better):

"Paint It Black":

Satisfaction:

Jumpin' Jack Flash:

Honky Tonk Women:

Least appealing? I was at Wednesdays show which was decent but the boys seemed a little disjointed and out of sync. Last night they were as tight as I have seen them since the BtB tour IMHO.

Just a fantastic show last night performance wise.

Was @ the Wednesday show , had $85 seats and we got just about the worst spot you could get .

Passed on tonights show and my fellow attendee from Wednesday went back tonight . He got $ 85 seats again , Just got a phone call about 5 minutes ago and he's in the pit !

Luck of the draw ..

Damn that hurts, I feel for ya!

Those of you recent attendees who are feeling depressed about seeing them for the last time I think have nothing to worry about. Given health care advancements even to guys like Keith who smoke and tipple, I'm seeing this going for 7 more years, and IMO you'll see Mick J. performing with others well beyond that, into his 80s, maybe 90.

I think Keith and Charlie, if all goes well, will be performing up to age 77 or so, and they both will see 80s. I don't think there will be a tour, but for sure dates in London and NYC, minimum.

These guys are not going to hang their hat. It's not in their blood, just as it isn't for B.B., wasn't for Willie Dixon or John Lee Hooker (I saw both perform in Chicago in'90, Willie age 75, JLH 73 or so, and he performed years beyond that).

Guys like George Strait or other acts will have a "Farewell Tour" because they want to settle down on the ranch, but the Stones have always defined themselves as the show, like the blues greats. They will perform somehow if possible.

Memory Motel alone was probably worth the price of admission.

So here's my story I had to share with you IORRers. For my 28th show (going back to '81 - HyDE Park will be 29, I consiDEr myself a fairly major fan) I finally got to take my 25 year old daughter. On Wed. my brother and I got OK balcony seats through the $85s. So I was praying for Pit for Fri. So we pick up the $85 Fri. tix -and pull DEcent Loge, Sec. 11, on the aisle. Not bad. Oh well - at least it's not balcony. We settle in for the GR&RBITWorld. I'm dancing, getting into it. Toward the end of Memory Motel, a guy with headphones comes up to me and says "How many in your party?" Just 2 - me and my daughter. He says "Well, if you want to come with me, I'll show you an experience you won't regret." So we go out into the concourse. He asks my daughter her name - she thought we were getting kicked out cause Dad is dancing too much - LOL. He puts the Pit braclets on us and escorts us down, along the floor and leads us into the Pit as the Stones are rocking out on As The Whip Comes Down. OMG!! Totally unexpected. I'm almost in tears telling the guy THANK YOU - he says, "I feel like Santa on Christmas, this is almost as much fun for me." After I shake his hand, he goes "Way to go Dad." And so that was my daughter's 1st experience seeing them. Mick threw water on us. We have his DNA now. Dream come true - true story. Amazing.

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing memory hotel. If I have one criticism it would be to PLEASE GET RID OF THOSE DAMN BACKGROUND SINGERS . I am sure they are nice people but they just ruin a lot of songs for me. OR as Keith said at Altamont. I WANT THEM OUT OF THE WAY MAN ..

Friggin' A, man ! I'm still kicking myself for not insisting that my daughter come with me to Bondy the day we got invited to listen in to the rehearsals...I'd dragged her there the day before and it was really cold. Oh well, Chuck told his friends that the plan was to tour Europe and Australia so there's still time to make it to the pit ;-)

@Wild Slivovitz - WTF is Robert Bagel?

When Keith sang the middle eight and the cheers went up, I felt teary eyed.

I actually felt the same way just watching the video. He certainly is beloved.
