A 'Super Deluxe' Crossfire Hurricane release- Bets?
Date: June 10, 2013 23:46

Haven't dropped coin for the (US) Blu-Ray of 'Crossfire Hurricane,' happy enough keeping the HBO version on my TiVo. But I've been wondering if at some point they (Eagle Rock? The Stones?) might 're-hype' the doc. by releasing the said with a 'Super Deluxe Edition,' of some type. The band seems to have done this a few times lately, as the 'Brussels Affair' box set craziness ($750 to $1,500.) shows. I'm aware that the 'B.A' example is of a new physical product, as opposed to the first 'Google Music' digital only release. But with the director, Brett Morgan, being quoted on how much they had to sift through, and the amount of interviewing he supposedly did, it seems like it should be a no brainer to find more concert clips, etc. We all know we can find more and more obscure 'vintage videos' of the band daily, of poor to great quality. I'd be happy to fork over a reasonable amount of cash for more from the vaults.
So I won't call this a bet, I guess, just a hope...

I doubt it.

Like Stones In Exile film promoting the re-re-re-re-re-release of Exile, Crossfire Hurricane seems to have been made for a very specific reason, to promote the 50th anniversary tour.

If the complete death of 25 X 5 is any indication, we'll get a new doc at some point.

What? I overspent on The Rolling Stones' 'Crossfire Huricane' and all I got was a t-shirt?
Jeez!

Really, '25x5' is arguably the better documentary of the two. 2.5 hours (unsure of exact length, as I have my VHS's safely stored away,) and it at least covered the band up that time ('89.)
Something along the lines of 'Video Rewind' would be cool, but maybe these days we are supposed to be satisfied with the Stones 'YouTube' channel?

I should watch 25 X 5 again. At the time it was cool because there was some footage from Rock & Roll Circus, which had been totally unviewable to that point. (Unless I dreamed it).

You didn't dream it, but there is a wonky acoustic guitar overdub on it though.

If memory serves, it was You Can't Always Get What You Want that they added an acoustic to in 25x5

Kind of off topic, but on the re-re- re- re- release subject, if something is "remastered" properly, why remaster again, and again....etc. I am still seething about BA, and all the MP3 downloads..... Mick, these aren't for the "casual" new kids you think you can woo. Give me a damn DVD/CD combo, like Texas 78'and I will gladly over pay like 40-50$ for it. You can't roll a number on an MP3....it's hard enough on a CD case!

According to Morgen, there is really no more footage left to be discovered and screened of The Stones that hasn't been seen before, with the exception of C-Sucker Blues outtakes. There were all those hours of interviews, but that was all audio-only. The film does in 2 hours what the director intended, telling the story of the first phase of their career, the "black hat" phase, before they became the best-loved institution of rock n roll, and does so without resorting to the classic documentary format of present-day interview looking back on clips (as was done for 25X5)--which is what Mick Jagger wanted.

The only re-release I could see of this film is of an expanded director's cut version, or perhaps a Criterion edition--but I imagine this would first have to be approved by you know who.

The overdub sounds of it's time though, probably done in late 1968 - early 1969.

I'd still buy a 2 DVD of all their vids.

It's simply a matter of practice. And, if you figure out how to roll on an MP3 you're set for life 'cuz you'll be able to anywhere.
