I think you're wrong footed, dvd is probably used as a sound medium.

The picture sleeve looks like one for a proper dvd but I think this is just wishful thinking. There is no suggestion that either Oakland show was filmed in either Nico Zentgraf's site or Felix Aeppli's book. I'm pretty sure the Maysles Bros. didn't film these shows as well as MSG & Altamont. Apparently Bill Gaham made the sounboard recording and he's one of the few people who could have afforded to film it but this would not have stayed secret.

Don't get your hopes up everyone, this will NOT be anything new. I'll repost what I said in the RSBoots group:

Judging by GM's previous releases, they've probably taken both Oakland 9/11/69 shows, upsampled them to 48khz (DVD Audio) and will release them on DVD-Rs (not pressed DVDs). They'll add still photos to accompany the music too.

Upsampling by itself will not make the recordings sound better, but apparently, they do a good job with EQ and digital tweaking. I've heard several (knowledgeable) Zep collectors say that their releases sound better than the equivalent on other labels.

DVD-A means probably DVD-AUDIO, which means just (improved?) sound and no video.

yes it's likely to be so, I'm afraid.
let's hope it's soundboard stuff.

Parts of Oakland were filmed, and even used for the Gimme Shelter movie (about a minute). But as others point out, this is a audio release.

if it's audio stuff, I don't see the point in releasing it on a DVD.
why not on CD ? even if it's a double.

The legendary status of these
boots outdoes the actual sound
and perfomrance quality. Good fun,
a must have if you don't but but but................

GM released Ladies And Gentlemen in a package including the DVD and an audio CD. Both are perhaps the best versions available. But I don't think this one will be video...

here is a review of such a Zep release:
1. The Devil's Blues (Genuine Masters, 1 DVDR-A), San Francisco 27 April 1969. A new concept of presenting audio was pioneered in 2004, on the sonically superior (and greater capacity) DVDR format, combining it with either still or moving images. Of the numerous releases the combined soundboard and audience recordings of the classic last night in San Francisco on 27 April 1969 has been chosen. The concert itself was superb, and the sound on this release is simply breathtaking, it could very well be an official release.
