Yes, that's true. But Taylor was a part (small, medium or large - your choice), of the proving process before he left and (for the moment), came back.

Its all there in Crossfire Hurricane...

Now we can say they were already great before he joined, but the same can be said for Ronnie.

Part of it may be "nostalgia" - to "see" Mick Taylor on stage with the Stones again, but we should not lose sight of the fact, this tour is basically a "greatest hits revue". Any time you can put an original piece back onto one of the applicable songs, the listening experience is now one less step closer to being a "cover band" -- on those particular songs.

Didn't Nostalgia scream in vain?

Mick Taylor has great chemistry with the Rolling Stones--it's that simple. They bring out the best of him. Chemistry is everything in relationships. MT is a guitar virtuoso who excels when he is in harmony and unity with this particular group of musicians. Ronnie has received him with open arms and Mick and Keith gave him accolades during and after CYHMK at Staples. It gave me chills to listen to his guitar solo slowly begin and then start to take off into another universe. For me, it was brilliant. The Stones took their concert into a golden level where it belongs. The saving is going both ways, here. MT is getting both the recognition he deserves and the money for his tremendous, God-given talent, and MJ and KR and RW were visibly enjoying what was unfolding on their stage. They were exchanging glances with wide eyes and jaws dropping and huge smiles! A beautiful sight! I loved it.

Best thing with Taylors playing with the boys again is that he seems to like it...really like it....

would be more correct if they send home the Wood Clown! the topic is rather more correct that Taylor is really "saving" the Stones Musically speaking ... in every song he plays is taylor dragging the band! if you can not see this then get the big clown ronnie ...... at the bottom are the stones that have invited Taylor and know the love of mick jagger for Taylor as it sounds ..........

Exactly, that's THE big difference with all the calibrated shows since...well pretty much forever, no, cause Taylor wasn't really unpredictable during his "first stint". Reading some comments here it seems going to a Stones felt "dangerous" back in the day (72 ?) but not for musical reasons, just the crowds.

These days the guy seems to have no fear (which is surprising considering what he's been through over the past 40 years, or maybe it's because of that...he's got nothing to lose really) but still respectful of the other guys, a unique balance.

Yeah, you probably expected Lady Jane, I Wanna Be Your Man, Factory Girl, Emotional Rescue, Little red Rooster/Tom Waits, The choir on YCAGWYW, Keith back on track and other things prior to the tour, right?

Seriously, I can understand what you're saying, within a song - with Taylor on board. It's not like you know what will come next...

Many of the comments in this thread are thoughtful and reasonable, but the title is just plain insulting, imo.

The Stones were and are a great band with or without Mick Taylor.

But, perhaps the OP is just using some hyperbole for dramatic effect.

Yeah, good observation. Not only has Mick Taylor been thrust back into the lime light, he looks healthier, trimmer, and is playing well. I think no one needed to "save" the Rolling Stones, and this union has been great for both. But also, at the most he has played on four songs in a concert, and Ronnie continues to be their main lead guitarist. And he is doing quite well this tour.

Nothing like a little healthy competition to help kick up your game.

You are 100% correct on your assessment. What is most surprising is how well ALL 3 of the boys (Taylor/Richards/Wood) are feeding off each other. Its only going to get better as the tour goes on!!!
