It's interesting to hear how the song changes from it's live debut at Altamont to its current live performance. I think the '69 to 71 live versions are great but my favroite version from that period has always been the original release.

My favorite is the studio version with Eric Clapton on lead guitar. They wanted to put it on Sticky Fingers

I like the Love You Live version a lot (yes...I know the solo is dubbed). The guitars are briliant.

Are there any "clean" versions of the Altamont recording? The one I have is really muffled.

Keith of course is completely straight

Was that solo really dubbed? I thought it was straight from a Paris 76 show, they wiped a lot of organ done by Preston at the beginning of the song.

Whatever the case, those gits are brilliant.

The version on LYL is from June 6, and if I remember correctly, they removed Keith's backing vocals.

I read somewhere that the solo was dubbed in. IF not....all the better.

After 1970 Keith never sang backing vocals to BS. If you hear him, it's dubbed. I actually doubt Wood's solo was dubbed.

its a 20 year old article, and obviously there would be more info available now than there was then...

still a lot of good research, though

what bits are factually inaccurate then?

The version I like it the one that's playing in Gimme Shelter!!!

Love the lead guitar that wasn't included in the Album release, and it had
Jagger & Richards dancing around the Hotel room that night!!!!! MLC

The bootleg version with Clapton is good. I prefer the original studio though. The song always goes over like a mofo live!! That means good.

The Clapton version has been issued on a truck load of boots over the years many of which are no longer available.

But keep an eye out for:

@#$%& Blues - COC 7073-2
Itchy Fingers - Invasion Unlimited IU 9535-1
The Missing Years - Great Dane GRD CD SAT 3
Shouting In A Bucket - Shaved Disc
Ultra Rare Tracks Vol3 - TGP CD 103

And I prefer the video version from '71 with Mick singing it over the recorded studio version of the song. Top of the pops? Not sure but he has a pink suit and looks really high. Mmmm. Brown Sugar.

it is indeed Top of the Pops (15.4.71). Cute eyeliner! and check out those baseball boots - they must have cost about £1.99. Doesnt quite fit in with the nifty salmon-coloured suit!

the original broadcast of that show has long been destroyed by the BBC - as has the band's two-song performance from the following week's show. The version in circulation is a re-broadcast, taken from the 1971 Christmas special

they didnt. The only song broadcast on 15th April was Brown Sugar

Bitch and Wild Horses were featured on the 22nd April show, however. No video in circulation of it, sadly

Phillies 1222

E-mail me and I'll send you a copy. I've got it on an old boot called Time Trip, Volume 1. It also has Keith singing Gimme Shelter and Mick singing You Got The Silver!!

Anyone have any pictures of Mick from this Top of the Pops performance, I am sure I have seen them before but I want to make sure, sounds very amusing.
