Well, it looks like the hoax story was a hoax. Damn! RIP RAY.

Oh, this is a too sad. The Doors were the soundtrack to my late teenage years. Manzarek was a terrific musician and, in my opinion, the sound of The Doors. He was always so incredibly insightful when interviewed. He always looked pretty healthy, too. He was born, I think, in 1939, so was a few years older than most of his contemporaries. Rest in peace, Ray Manzarek.

Alice Cooper just posted this on his Facebook page. Now is it this a hoax or not?

[en.mediamass.net]

The news has just broken through all the major news outlets, where the band's manager is the source relaying the news.

Before the news broke wide, it was on the official Doors website in the "News" section.

The Doors were one of the greatest bands ever, often they were reduced to their lead singer. So: Deep respct to Ray Manzarek, who was a great part of the Doors' magic.

He certainly was...I think his keyboard playing defined the Doors sound (especially on the famous tracks like 'Light My Fire').

oh man,i loved that friggin guy.he could really tell a story.when he talked about meeting morrison on the beach and those old stories about the early days you really felt like you were there.

a great keyboardist too.that sort of scary carnival funhouse vibe he had to his playing really brought morrisons lyrics to life.

the beginning of" when the musics over" comes to mind, the keyboard solo in light my fire,....this just sucks

we're starting to lose these guys at a quicker pace now,its scary to me.

What a way to "change the mood from glad to sadness..."

Very sad day indeed. I've seen him perform several times over the years in various incarnations including last Sept. in Atlantic Cit with Robbie Krieger. Met him in the casino the next day and he let us take a photo of him with of my friends. RIP Ray, say hello to Mr. Mojo Risin for me.

I am going to miss Ray and his Jim Morrison mythologizing. He was a great spokesperson for the band.

I'm so shocked.

RIP Ray Manzarek

I like the music of The Doors very much. Your organ sound was my favorite, right after the voice of Jim Morrison.

Very sad news. Ray's keyboard work was absolutely integral to the incredible sound of the Doors, still sounding dangerous and mind-bending more than 45 years later.

Rest in peace, Ray. You will be missed.
