Why Hampton??
Date: March 4, 2005 23:36

I live near the Hampton area.
I always wondered why the Stones picked that city.
The Colisium had to be the smallest on the 81 tour (it's only supposed to fit 10,000 maybe 13,000 General Admission)
It looks huge in the broadcast.
And who has ever heard of Hampton Va? They had played there a few times in the past.
I remember it was a very wild week with alot of Stones sightings.
Anybody here go? And how was the next night?

Thanks

Hampton is odd but it is known as one of the better sounding indoor venues on the east coast. Plus it's far enough away from any major cities, but still a populated area, that it's a no-brainer. The Grateful Dead would normally play there 3-times a year throughout the late 80's early 90's.

Well Hampton may have been an unknown town for years but The Stones sure carved it deep into the rock & roll history books on the 18th of December 1981.

Hampton 81 - Jointrip DVD should be declared compulsary veiwing in all secondary schools worldwide.
