Poll: Best '73 live performance boot?
Posted by: SatanicFlowers ()

What do you think:

Brussels Affair?
Definative Brussels?
Timeless?
Bedspring Symphony?
Perth?
Hawaii?
Any others (of course)...and why?

I personally am lookingfor the "best"
(I know it's subjective) version of:
Gimmee Shelter
All Down the Line
Star Star

...your opinions please!

"The Definitive Brussels" has all the good stuff, but many may disagree about what the definitive 73 boot (which should've been an official live album) should include. IMHO, the Wembley 9/9 "Gimme Shelter" and "Street Fighting Man" are essential additions (or replacements) to the Brussels 10/17 tracks. "Star Star" is an optional addition. A decent recording from Newcastle is available, but it doesn't have the same outstanding quality as the KBFH radio broadcasts.

As for Perth '73--we have some different songs, such as "Bitch", so the Feb 73 shows closely resemble the '72 setlists, but overall, I believe that the original masters from the fall '73 KBFH shows are the best sound quality of any shows from the Taylor era.

This, to my mind, is the Holy Grail of unreleased live material. Will it ever be released officially? Doubtful.

i thot the criteria was "performance" - not sound quality - I say Empire Pool wins on that basis....

1. Come Back London
2. Perth
3. Brussels

Performance wise the London 9/9/73 and Berlin, 10/19/73 shows are the best, quality wise the Brussels 10/17/73 on Europe 73 by VGP is the best, energy wise the Sydney februari 26 and 27 1973 are the best.

But don't forget Honululu, Melbourne, Munich, Frankfurt, Rotterdam, Antwerp....in fact, collect em all on CDR, and turn them up up loud.

Yeah Bassplayer, that's
a good way to put it-
the Holy Grail.

BTW: Does anyone know, was the
Perth soundboard recorded
for a possible KBFH or some
other possible Oz radio show?
Or was it something the Stones
did for themselves? The crew
ripped off? Maybe Sidney too?

when the Aussie tapes first circulated back in the 80's the word I got was that some roadie was offered compensation (for waht I don't know/remember) and was told he could pick out a couple of his fave shows.

I have listening a lot lately to some 73 boots and there a lot of them around. The best ones have already been mentioned, mostly soundboards. The best at the moment is "Backstrap Jacket" from Tarantura. Especially the first CD with Perth. The best quality I have heard from this concert!
