OT: new OLD SCHOOL ROCK N ROLL album by tom keifer, singer for cinderella
Date: May 14, 2013 07:15

tom keifer, lead singer of cinderella, has released his first solo album called THE WAY LIFE GOES. i would say it sounds very similar to the cinderella album HEARTBREAK STATION but a bit more country in spots, think the stones album beggars banquet. really good stuff for fans of old school rock n roll. samples of each song can be found at the link below

Absolutely right. Months ago, I hear this song on my local radio station. I'm like "geez, this is really good. Serious old school rock." Turns out to be Tom Keifer. I knew he was in Cinderella, but they weren't a band I ever listened to. So its a huge shock to me hearing such a great song. I have the album but have yet to listen to the rest of it. But based on the single, Solid Ground, I totally agree. Kick ass rock music with an old tinge that I don't hear from very many bands these days. You can tell he's legit. I couldn't have been more surprised when I found out who it was. I definitely think Solid Ground is Stonesish. Now I wish I had seen Tom live a few months ago.

the only cinderella album i'd recommend to you is HEARTBREAK STATION. sounds a lot like this solo album but i little heavier in spot. check out the songs "one for rock n roll", "sick for the sure", "love's got me doin time" and "make your own way".

OK, I gave it a listen:

Solid Ground is a poor cousin of Every Picture Tells A Story!

The Flower Song is Rod again, in a too radio-friendly way for my likings.

Welcome To My Mind is a fresh take on psychedelia.

The Way Life Goes is bluesy. However, the sound is the opposite of authentic.

Babylon sounds like a Georgia Satellites-outtake.

The rest sounds like low-quality poodle rock from the 80s to me...

I've heard Night Songs is very good too. When I told my friend about Keifer, he wasn't that shocked, saying "yeah, Cinderella is very good". Not that I don't believe him, but I find it odd if thats the case why he's never played me one song by them yet we've gone through countless other similar bands over the years. I'll take a listen. Thanks for the suggestions.

It's more to do with the production on the STUDIO album. Trebly guitars, no wobble, cheap choruses.

But I'll give you that - some of the songs (snippets) were better than I expected them to be.

Are Cinderella still around? I saw them in 88 when they opened for AC/DC at BC Place in Vancouver. Bought their first 2 CD's. One thing I remember is the guitarist and bass player swinging their guitars around their necks in unison. Remember seeing Steve Vai do the same thing.

i still think its funny people keep saying it sounds like poodle rock. sounds nothing at all like warrant or bon jovi. cinderella, along with great white and tesla, were a band i thought played straight ahead rock n roll that was packaged to attract the current rock scene in the 80's.

Tesla is a band my friends and I love. All their albums are great and they are still going strong with nearly all the original members. I know they aren't for anyone, but boy they are one of my personal favorites. I will admit I did always associate Cinderella with Warrant and those bands (for some reason I thought they were the ones that did Sister Christian), but they sound pretty great from what I've heard. Just had to acknowledge the shoutout for Tesla!

yeah cinderella was a band that was different but got packaged with the hair metal. by HEATBREAK STATION they had dropped any signs of metal and the image was tones down. little richard even appeared in the music video for "shelter me". not a fan of great white?

anyways i thought there were a few hair bands that stood out above the rest. RATT, dokken, extreme, w.a.s.p., l.a. guns and faster pussycat. the rest have songs and albums i love but they don't seem to set themselves apart much

Just have never really listened to them. Have nothing against them, but the only song I know is Once Bitten Twice Shy (which I do think is great), and I've never come to having the opportunity to listen to all their stuff. There are a ton of those hair metal bands I have no problem with but know one song and not a whole catalogue. Most of them are the examples you gave. I'm sure most of them are very good, I guess its just whatever came across my radar got played and I never felt the need to seek out all those other bands, because its kind of endless. Similar to Cinderella, I've had nothing against them it just happens to be now is the time they've come across my radar.

Tesla, the first band to put out an unplugged album. Check out Mothers Little Helper on that album as well as Signs! I've seen Tesla twice as an opening band in the 80's although I can't remember who for. I think Alice Cooper once and perhaps Aerosmith? Great White's Rock Me is one of my favorite songs of any band. Jack Russell sings Zeppelin songs better than Plant! Saw Great White in 84 opening for Judas Priest in Vancouver.
Saw Dokken open for Aerosmith on the Permanent Vacation tour and LA Guns in 91 opening for AC/DC. Liked their song Ballad of Jayne.

Cinderella were my favorite 80's band. Have been dying for them to put out some new stuff since almost all of the other bands do, and some with only 1 original member!! They're still all there! But alas, nothing but tours. This album has been rumored for so long now. I'm glad it's finally out. Heartbreak Station didn't sell near as well as their first 2 albums, though it was great and produced by John Paul Jones. By the time Still Climbing came out, Nirvana had broke, and without a clear hit on it, Cinderella found themselves to be quickly dropped........

Tesla still kicks @ss in the way of AC/DC - never changing, always doing their own thing and not giving a F! They are straight up rock and roll. Every album is a solid one, even their 2 cover albums.

Great White I could take or leave. I like a lot of their stuff, but for every song I like another annoys me. I don't like Zep covers, personally. If I want to hear a whole album of it, I'll just listen to Zep, but that's just me. Once Bitten, Rock Me, The Angel Song, Mista Bone, Call It Rock N Roll, Big Goodbye, Desert Moon, and a couple I'm missing are all great.

Didn't really move me..When I want to listen to some real rock and roll I put on the Diamond Dogs or Quireboys. 2 bands you should really check out. Any of Izzy Stradlins solo albums are also worth a listen especially with the Ju Ju Hounds

actually own all the stuff you speak and yes they have a little more authentic rock n roll sound. i made a thread a while back and not sure if anyone checked them out but there was a great supergroup called COL. PARKER that released 1 great album about a decade ago:

my opinion - awful stuff. if this is the music he believes in he should have been doing it all along. Just jumping on a current bandwagon of "rootsy rock'n roll". Sounds very much like that moron from Jersey B Jovi.

umm keifer did stuff like this 20+ years ago. sorry he's not authentic like the stones. you know the band from england who did blues and r&b, then rock, then psycedelia, then roots rock, then punk, then reggae, then country, then disco, then new wave, then...i could keep going but i think my point was just made.

now check out little richard in this cinderella video from over 20 years ago:

Really can't get past the vocals. Sounds like his hair band approach to singing, just not enough emotion. The music is ok. But yeah, sorry to say, sounds like poodle rock to me as well.
