Highway Child
Date: March 1, 2005 21:17

I just got "Main St. Revisited", and one of the songs is called 'Highway Child'.
probably this is on other boots as well...is this a Mick/Keith song ? sounds like Keith, Charlie, and Mick.

This is on several other boots; Ultra Rare Tracks, R.S.V.P etc.

I like Keith's guitar on this one but it sounds like he'd need to be sober to play it for real.

Keith of course is completely straight

Have heard some say it is Jagger on guitar (more on the beat, electric played like an acoutic, etc.)

Yep Dillard...very scant details but it's a Jagger/Richard track recorded at Redlands early 1968 using Stones mobile unit. Jimmy Miller & Glyn Johns also present.

Rockman thanks! is it Jimmy Miller on drums then? and I thought the same, Smokey, sounds like Jagger on guitar...intriguing...its a cool sketch for a song.

Yes - MJ plays the guitar on this - no KR.

Yeah well details are slim possibly Charlie but Miller often jumped in on the drums so maybe?

Absoluteky nonsense, it's Keith on guitar, Charlie drums and Jagger vocals. The guitar is much to complicated to be Jagger in 1968, and especially the intro is a typical guitar riff Keith plays more often, think "It Means a Lot".

Yes. Positively NOT Jagger on guitar.
It's the 3-piece, as Mathijs kindly explained.

J&R worked on pushing Brian out of the band, well over a year before
the "official" announcement. So no surprise Brian isn't there.

Bill Wyman mentioned he often waited hours for Keith and/or Mick to
show up, so he'd probably left.

?? If this doesn't sound like Keith, what does?

Agree with Mathijs - this is as typical Keith as it gets.

Sounds quintessential Keef to me. Great track. According to Martin Elliot (not necessarily reliable) "Highway Child seemed a possibility for release, since the tape was later mastered by Jimmy Miller at the Olympic Studio. It is played in the hard rock vogue and has quite a memorable riff."

Guess there were too many mistakes on the track for releasing it. IMO, it starts out great, but turns out to be a mish mash of muddy guitars after a while...

Brown Sugar sounds like Keith. Highway Child sounds like some hack (Jagger?) who doesn't know how to play guitar.

I've always liked the energy of this song
(once I got over the sloppy chord changes and "out-of-tuness).
Jagger couldn't play this "good" at this point in his career.

Could be redone today? Maybe...how about
"Hamburger to Go?" or "Blood Red Wine"
....OR HELL, How about CD of all the
old boot "gems" polished up a bit?

That woould get my money...NOT another
stupid live release (unless it's an official '73!)

Cheers,
