Best riff ever?
Date: February 28, 2005 16:19

OK, The Stones have delivered the GOODS over the years. But there are also a few other artists who have come up with powerfull riffs, contributing to a soundtrack for 3 generations. Which are your favourite rock riffs of all time?
Here are mine:
1) Honky Tonk Women
2) Jumping Jack Flash
3) 20th Century Boy (T. Rex)
4) Lust for Life (Iggy Pop)
5) Satisfaction.

Not necessarily in this chronology, depending on which mood I'm in... Come on! Ooops, My favourite riff is of course The Human Riff Himself.

Also the riff that almost everyone plays wrong. Most people use powerchords on the E-A-D strings, while it should be played on the D-G strings without a plectrum.

Holy smoke!

Forgive me, English...

These I forgot:

You Really Got Me &
All Day And All Of The Night- The Kinks...
Sweet Leaf - Black Sabbath ...My Generation - the Who...

...Can´t push out any of the others; pleez sqeez´em in the midst of my list.... Or...
Philosophically-semantically Chuckster-stuff may be categorized as Best Rock 'n' Roll Songs, and not Best Riffs; so, OK, here´s my new list
(completed with some Danes and another Hungarian ensemble at the end...)

1. Satisfaction - RS , 2. You Really Got Me - The Kinks, 3. All Day And All Of The Night- The Kinks, 4.Sweet Leaf - Black Sabbath, 5. My Generation - the Who6. God Save The Queen - Pistols , 7. Voodo Chile - JH, 8. Passenger - Iggy & Stooges , 9. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana, 10. I´m Going Down - RS, 11. Space Truckin´- Purple, 12. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - BS, 13. Tüzvihar - Omega (from Hungary; they´ve played for 43 years now...) , 14. Jailbreak - Thin Lizzy
15. Bobo´s sang - Gasolin´ 16. Tüz Van - Dinamit (Gyúla Vikidal vocals)

Comment on last one: Lizzy should be possible to contribute with ant tune on a list like this; but they were (note tempus) not really a riff-based band.
"Tüz" (long dots) means fire.
