"From The Vault"- Hampton 1981 on 3 November
Posted by: SKILLS ()
Date: May 8, 2013 03:00

Just announced in the second part of the article

"The band plans to release similar box sets for other Stones Archive material. Next up: a package for their 26-song set at Virginia's Hampton Coliseum on December 18th, 1981 – where, on Keith Richards' 38th birthday, he famously hit a stage-rushing fan on the head with his Telecaster. Packaging will include a DVD of the show, vinyl and possibly a replica of Keith Richards' guitar pick, with some signed by Richards. "We're trying to make sure it's a different experience every time," Bennett says."

News, my wife is calling it a nightmare....

Claim's she won't see me for a month, i've been threatening to call our first born "Hampton" for months now, amongst us, not seriously, but maybe the dog.

I can't wait for a CD/Vinyl/DVD package.

I do wish they'd physically release a CD for Brussels, the $750 for the Box is just too much just to get it.

I can't afford these $750 box sets like Brussels. So I'm hoping maybe it will be a cheaper box like L&G or Charlie Is My Darling which I can afford. Or just a CD/Blu Ray/DVD package like Texas '78 and Checkerboard.

I recommend Texas 78 and L&G, especially if you don't have Stones in Exile.

Texas is sensational imo

Please, no. Not another hyper over-expensive boxset. My flacs are enough. Spending a grand for a physical version will not make the music sound any different.

(Ken Regan?)

I wonder if they got to see the basement.

If they saw the basement, they probably saw Pee Wee's bike.

Then Large Marge gave 'em a lift to the show.

Bill hit it.

There's no basement at the Alamo!

Thank Google Images, Ken Regan and Davy Crockett.

Seriously though, if you guys are ever nearby go check it out. Interesting place, and lots of other interesting old missions and stuff around San Antonio. It's hotter than a dogs balls though.

who cares about a box set. it doesn't change the audio that hits your ears. what i want is more Archive releases - different years, studio outtakes. download only suits me just great.

Yeah L.A. now that'd be wild, who knows what the oficial footage looks like, or how much there is?

Probably put Falo in coma if they finally released it after that incredible effort on his MFG project, still though must be said that potentially the 78 bootleg is more than a competitor for the official Texas 78. So rock on Boots

I saw Hampton on PPV when it happened. Keith really bashes the guy who jumps on stage. Was swinging for the fences.

I can never really tell. It used to look to me like the guy did a pretty good job of stopping the blow. He does get his hands up and Keith from hitting him with his full force, but it does look like the body catches him in the back or side of the head. Had he not reacted that pretty well like he did Keith probably would have knocked his ass out cold.

Did he really go bail that guy out of jail or is he just full of it?

Funny to see that the 1727 units limited Collector's Edition has not sold out after more than one year...

BTW why does Rolling Stone write about the Brussels Affair boxset only now?

CDs should be released of the archive recordings, as there's no produce this year, and it would be great to have nice liner notes, be it Nick Kent on Brussels Affair, Ronnie Wood on LA Friday, Ian McLagan on Hampton 1981, Chuck Leavell on Roundhay Park, 1982, or whoever.

Ya think? I'd say that same package at $80 would still be too much...

Looks like a nice release, but like many of you I'd prefer 1) a lighter package à la Texas '78, and 2) more archive releases and not just the same shows in a dozen formats. Gotta agree a dvd is great.

It can't be another $750 box can it? The Brussels box didn't exactly fly off the shelf, and the recent ticketing thing might be showing them that there is a point where they start to be too expensive for us.

They didn't mention an autographed book or lithograph, which I'm assuming is what made Brussels so expensive. Just a CD/DVD/Vinyl box, with a replica pick thrown in instead of the poster, and that's about the same thing as the Charlie is My Darling box, which was around $80-$90. I imagine this will be a bit more expensive, because there will likely be more than one record in the box, the whole show won't even fit on 2 CDs. It might be something more in the Grrr! deluxe box range, but I don't think they'll go the $750 route when they still have Brussels box sets laying around.

Hope the DVD is a Bluray.
