Yes, you're right, and I never noticed that before! There are in fact 11 hands there, and without several minutes of serious scrutiny it's virtually impossible to tell which is the odd hand out.

I've obviously got far too much time on my hands. My vote is the hand on the extreme right!

Yes, I believe you're right. The one with the black leather wrist band on Bill's left shoulder that appears to be reaching in from off camera. Right, mystery solved!

It looks more like 1964, doesn't it--which is the year that Mr. Hopkins took the photo below from a morning shoot for Melody Maker, and which appears to be from the same session as from the photo posted above.



I initially included 1963 for the year because some sources had 1963 listed, such as Time Entertainment (the source from where I pulled the photo) and the Getty Images site: [www.gettyimages.com]

It's funny, because on the Getty Images site, each photo has detailed editorial information, including the month, day, and year--however, for the John 'Hoppy' Hopkins photo that I initially posted, it has 1 January 1963 as the date, which is impossible because Charlie and Bill were not permanent members at this time and because they weren't doing publicity photos on that date, as this was pre-ALO.

I try to include as much information as possible for each photo, including photographer credits whenever this information is available, but this is sometimes difficult when several sources list inaccurate dates, where even the wrong year can sometimes be listed.

More great pics. So interesting how you can see Keith gradually becoming "Keith," so to speak! Whereas Bill and Charlie hardly change.

If anybody's interested, Hoppy (mostly just known by one name) went on to become a leading figure in the London hippie movement as an activist. The same year Keith got his jail sentence thrown out, Hoppy ended up doing six months for possession and allowing his house to be used for smoking cannabis, leading to a major protest.
John "Hoppy" Hopkins
