Nope! One more here! Got most of her albums and think it's big art....

thumbs up

You can't possibly like that kack?

If she hadn't married Lennon she would have been a nobody or found someone else to leech off.

She hasn't been exactly a "nobody" before meeting John Lennon. She has been performing in art and music since the mid 50's.

One of her most famous performance was "Cut":

Full version : [www.youtube.com]

I think it sums up quite well what's her intention in art : to make people react and take part to the performance.

Obviously she achieved this aim with her music too.

Recently she had a retrospective exhibition in London : [www.huffingtonpost.co.uk]

This is like when people tell me that a pile of old newspapers with a Tesco bag next to them... entitled "Newspapers and Tesco Bag"... is art.

It's just like that.

You can call any old tat "art".

This post is art.

Perfect example.

Total crap.

Yoko donated $300,000 to battered women's charities in Linda McCartney's name in 1998.

Yoko Ono is now working with The Sonic Youth members.
This is fantastic, beautifull, lovely and awesome !! - It should be a top ten hit.

Lots of crap "artists" got a lot of attention in the 60s. Lots of people doing weird stuff and calling it "art".

No one knows most of them even existed.

She would be one of them if she hadn't married Lennon.

By the way aren't you currently giving a lot of attention to her art?
Her art is about making reacting people. She's a master at this obviously... winking smiley

I give a lot of attention to a lot of things and I react to them... privatising the NHS for instance.. that's not art.

David Cameron isn't an artist.

Yoko Ono with Sean Lennon on piano and Antony Hegarty (from Antony & The Johnsons)

That's nice.

Yoko's bit could have been done by any OAP though.

I've got tapes of my Nan singing like that.

Great song - Iggy Pop did a cover version of this:

No matter what we think, the only thing that matters, is that John loved her. Kind of like the Laura Bush situation.

Everything Yoko Ono does as an 'artist' is why I completely disregard most post-modern art. It is art for art's sake. Her 'art' is MEANINGLESS, POINTLESS and poorly executed.

She ONLY gets away with it because of who she is in regards to Lennon and the Beatles. She may be a deep thinker, but her 'art' is terrible.

You all have posted so many examples of her work that I simply have not seen. The stuff with Sonic Youth is just jaw-dropping.

She doesn't "get away with" anything. Beatles fans hate her. This stuff would have a bigger audience if not for the Beatles connection. I don't see anyone making ignorant comments about Melt Banana for example because no one here knows who they are.

True art is when you trudge on against the hatred and derision of millions of classic rock radio listeners who never went any deeper than Quarterflash or Pearl Jam.

That clip with Sonic Youth is incredible.

I would rather listen to her howling (which can be hauntingly beautiful) than just about most bands banging out 3 and 4 chords. Meaningless, pointless and poorly executed describes almost every rock song with lyrics about love, sex or being misunderstood written in the last 40 years.

She was and still is bereft of any talent, be that musical or otherwise. Reminds of students I used to know who would just create or do something very silly and call it art. Can't do with all that nonsense. Lennon chose her for whatever reason, but it wasn't for her singing or musical abilities. Strange really she wasn't even attractive, well not in the same class as Pallenberg, Faithful, Pattie Boyd etc etc. I'm sure he did it just to be different - meh.

Nope, I'm a fan. For various reasons, mostly that she raised Sean well, is into some causes I agree with, and writes great articles.

I think some people just dont have a sense of humour - and they take art way too seriously - and they want art to be conservative, when in my opinion - really good art, like rock n roll - should always be rebellious.

Just few facts here:
The definition of conceptual art:

- In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art

Tony Godfrey, author of Conceptual Art (Art & Ideas) (1998), asserts that conceptual art questions the nature of art. And that really good conceptual artist is always the one who gets lot of reactions from people. Conceptual art emerged as a movement during the 1960s and Yoko Ono was one it's pioneers.

famous moments and works in the history of conceptual art:

in 1957: Yves Klein declared that his paintings were now invisible and to prove it he exhibited an empty room with empty walls.
in 1960 The artist Stanley Brouwn declares that all the shoe shops in Amsterdam constitute an exhibition of his work.
In 1961, Robert Rauschenberg sent a telegram to the Galerie Iris Clert which said: 'This telegram is a portrait of Iris Clert if I say so.' as his contribution to an exhibition of portraits.

1961: Piero Manzoni exhibited Artist's shit, tins purportedly containing his own feces (although since the work would be destroyed if opened, no one has been able to say for sure). He put the tins on sale for their own weight in gold.

and in recent history:

1992: Maurizio Bolognini exhibits Programmed Machines: hundreds of computers are programmed and left to run ad infinitum to generate inexhaustible flows of random images which nobody would see

2001: Martin Creed wins the Turner Prize for The Lights Going On and Off, an empty room in which the lights go on and off

Shows what a varied bunch we are when theres a lot to talk about in Stonesland, but we always find time for other topics.

That's great. winking smiley
