THREE STONES GUITARISTS ... Will It Be The Best Live Stones Ever?
Posted by: schillid ()

KEITH ... his playing recently sounds great (His rhythm playing, that is)... focused, practiced, sober.

RONNIE... He also played great when I saw them in Newark in December. Woody's a good copyist and a good guitarist... so he can also play all the necessary old riffs, if maybe Keith can't or is posing or "soloing". Ditto practice and sobriety for Ronnie...

MICK TAYLOR ... LET HIM FLY!

As Keith said recently (was it a recent Jimmy Fallon interview?)... there are often several guitars overdubbed on the original songs which could make for some great live arrangements. Now I just need to get a ticket!

Keith will come up with anything to justify their actions. Funny, isn't it, how they never, ever needed 3 guitarists the previous 50 years? In fact I don't think they were happy with the '81 Kansas City concert when they did have Taylor. It's all to cover that Keith's fingering is suspect at this time. He can still manage some chunky chords, but his soloing has gone south. This is his way of putting a positive spin on it.

ok... 4 guitars if Mick wants to strum.

But if MJ is busy out front being Mick Jagger, then the 3 guitars would be fine.

It will not be the best ever, but judging from MR from the second London night on there will be very special moments, maybe in more than just one song.

I think you are all being alittle too harsh..three guitars doesn't indicate anything other than there are three guitars playing. It may not be to cover for Keith or Ron, in fact judging Ron Wood's recent guitar work he is more than capable of covering all the lead work himself. Keith was never a great live soloist and much prefers to play off Charlie with his rhythm chops.

It's great that Taylor appears to be getting an extended slot in the show, but he needs some structure. Midnight Rambler was good but he seemed to be a bit all over the place. If he is going to play on several songs he needs some extended practice with the band. I would love him to play the solo on Gimme Shelter a la 72/73, but not wailing on forever - structure, structure, structure.

This is so good. Keith can sit and play acoustic on somithing like Dead Flowers, Ronnie can play steel, Taylor can play 12 string...

That's funny, that's the first thing I thought of too, the time I saw the Outlaws, like...30+ years ago, they just seemed to have so many guitars on stage and were so loud!

I don't think I've ever seen so many guitarists onstage together at one time as here...

This one comes close, and is more fun because Pete Townshend is stone drunk....

Is it the track itself, or the crowded stage? Here's a version of Lucille with the same line-up.

You guys are tough. Some of Taylor's sweetest recorded moments are on acoustic guitar and nashville tuning which is twelve minus the regular six, but you know that!drinking smiley Even you jokers who pretend to hate everything about the current band have to be tweaked. I'm certain that the guitar section will continue to be the concise, respectful and professional presentation they've always been famous for.

Hey hey, easy on my man jeroen...I wonder if we can call him Jerry?

What I really want to know is Will Keith go back to posing once Blondie gets back from the Beach Boys tour?

There were THREE great bits of guitar news on the December shows:

1. Keith focusing on playing rather than posing.
2. The inclusion of Mick Taylor (but we need more than the one tune).
3. The improved playing of Ronnie.

This bodes very well for the guitar section on the upcoming tour.

Ronnie was awesome in Newark. MT will only add, not take. I'm a little worried about the Staples Center show, but hopefully MT gets some time in with the band beforehand.

Who the hell are the guests going to be when you have MT on board for a more extensive role?

Keith was good too in Newark, his solo in London on I'm going down, was better... in fact it was awesome in London (with Jeff beck). Why was his solo not as good in Newark??? I guess he was playing to the original song (which is great, but not as musically awesome). Don't get me wrong, it was good, but not as good as London. I like as many DISTINCT notes as possible. Keith killed it in London.
Maybe too short???

I think 3 DIFFERENT guitar solos on Sympathy is a MUST! Yes, Ronnie too! There is a post on here called, "My Hats off to Ronnie"

I'm ready for more Ronnie Wood, to be honest. I don't know what to expect from MT, just hoping and praying he gives us moments of his brilliance.

Give us a good set list boys (and lisa).
