Sorry, but the article is wrong.
The Stones sold 1000's of tickets at a the reasonable price of $85.00.

nuff sed.

After paying £350 for 2 back row seats at O2 arena, I agree with everything in the article.

It comes down to legacy and what's the Stones legacy? Great albums from 1968 to 1983, mediocre to good albums from 1983 to 2005, then milk as much money from fans.

I still paid £95 to see them at Hyde Park and would paid more if the tier 2 were available. I wonder those responsible for the ticket prices?

Actually I am quite happy myself too now, but that has nothing to do with tickets. More with smileys with beer Cheers Max

Well, yes, this has been written dozend of times before. The end of the article on mentions club shows, well they charged $20 for that last year at Le Trabendo in Paris and even let 50+ people in for free...when they could have charged what he suggests. And today there were the $85 lottery tix...it's not black and white.

Let's face the truth... had it not been for the lottery, many of us would be singing a different tune. I have tickets to all three Chicago gigs. If I'm in the worst seats I will likely be very unhappy with the gamble. Decent seats and I'll feel it paid off big-time!

You deserve to be ripped off for not mentioning the greatness of 1962(I assume) and 1963 - 1967. grinning smiley

Was it a lottery? I dont think it was, because it appears that every one who wanted an $85.00 ticket today, go one, and some people got three sets. If I am incorrect, let it be known.

I am very pleased with my Stones and how they did this and I did not benefit from it, I just like their style. GOOD FOR MICK!

If you look at it from another point of view than supply and demand - like quality of the product for example - they should have lower ticket prices than normally.
I feel a bit sorry for those who can't really afford the tickets and accommodation but still go for it. Those are the ones that suffer the most from it...

And then there are some people who can not be made happy, no matter what.

None with similar legacies. Macca, Zep, would never pull this shit. Springsteen would never. Pearl Jam? Not a chance.

The Stones alone could be the only band greedy enough to do this. To go from being counter-culture, to mainstream, to being all about the cash. Sinatra and Streisand charged crazy ticket prices late in their careers, so maybe the Stones can get grouped with them for their legacy.

I got an offer for a ticket for Toronto today but turned it down. I want zero to do with this 'tour'. errrr money grab.

Next they will be adding a 6 month long residency in Vegas, with Wayne Newton guesting each night. The desert air will be good for Keith's hands, and those that can't afford teh catering at the show can go to one of the cheap buffets on the Vegas Strip before the show.

"In 30 years, when Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are either dead and buried, or are liquid-preserved human heads running a cybernetic body, how badly will you want to tell your (grand-) kids that yes, you saw the real Rolling Stones live?"

Mick is 70 and if anyone can live past 100 it's him. All bets are off with Keith but as he once said about his legendary resilience - "It's a sturdy frame, this." 100 is the new 70! Who knows? Many of us may still be bitching, moaning and speculating about the next tour in 30 years!

Your're right, I should of mentioned the early years. I've not paid much attention to those early albums, dismissing them as mostly covers. I plan on listening to those albums when I get the chance smiling smiley

I think the reality is that if the Stones didn't charge that price and they capped out at $300, scalpers would have purchased huge quantities of tickets, doubled or tripled the price and many fans would have paid the same prices being asked by the band......but some unaffiliated middleman ticket broker gets rich. So, if this means the band gets a bigger take of what the fans ultimately pays, the pricing scheme makes sense to me.

Personally, I know a lot of people that wouldn't think twice about paying a scalper $600 for a ticket to a name act show they got shut out of that are complaining about having to pay that as face.

I find it amusing.....and I blame the Eagles!

Lots of covers till 1964/65 then the originality comes in 1965 - 1967, all mostly glorious stuff.

thumbs up
