Hey BB,

Try to catch the Stones ASAP. With the people you've listed, I think you'll like it very much.

I forgot the worst show of them all. The Nylons Expo 86 Vancouver. What the hell could I possibly have been thinking? If you're not familiar they are an acapella group and they're shtick is soooo boring. And I was with a big fan of theirs so I stayed till the bitter end, drinking as many beers as possible.

the clash-cape cod colesium 1982- topper wasn't with the band then but mick and joe tore off the roof
tom petty and the heartbreakers 1981 boston garden-1997 great woods- this one ties because in 81 he was very good but in 97 he was even better
allman brothers 2004 tweeter cntr/mansfield- it poured like hell out in the parking lot but the show was three hours of guitar heaven

worst
the replacements- 90 something..by then they had lost their edge
eric clapton- late 80's- he toured with mark knophler and i thought it would've been guitar night, knophler stayed in the shadows and just played rythmn

Well, I judge this different from the best concerts thread.

My greatest concert experience was when I first saw Michael Jackson in the Amsterdam Arena 1996. The greatest show I ever saw... but horrible and inexcusable that 50% was playback.

Another one was the first time I saw The Stones in Werchter 1995. My first big concert. I went with my parents.

Seeing Prince for the first time was also a pretty good experience.

BEST
1)Fleetwood Mac - 1980 during the Tusk Tour, my first concert ... I was lucky
2)Nitzer Ebb - 1992 Ebbhead Tour, these electronic wizards put on a fantastic show, loud, energetic and lots of fun... I was really suprised at how good they were
3)Depeche Mode - 1988 Concert for the Masses Tour ... what can I say, I went not know any of their stuff but the energy between them that night and a suprise sell out crowd had an effect on me. I've been a big fan ever since

WORST
1)Guns and Roses - 1992 Use Your Illusion, just rock cliche after rock cliche handed out that night. The show was scheduled to start at 7PM and Sound Garden didn't even take the stage until almost 9PM and Guns went on at 11:30 and played until 2:30 AM!!! On a week night !!! More than half the crowd had left by the time they were done. As it turned out Guns did that several times on that tour ... making fans wait ... what a shitty thing to do and suck at the same time.
2)Aerosmith- I think it was the 1993 or 94 tour and I really wanted to see them. But they were just like watching their videos and every other song was a ballad... a far cry from their heyday.

***notice there are no Stones shows here because you can not compare them to anyone... they are the litmus test on which I based al lthe listed shows***
3)Stevie Nicks - 1989, she only played 14 songs and changed her outfit between each song. Sooooooo, a show that should have taken about 70 minutes turned into a 2 1/2 hour fashion show and a boring one at that!

Ouch. I forgot to list them according to the question. Oh well. I liked all of them at the time. Ironically, ZZ Top was third on the bill for the 1973 Uriah Heep show. I remember thinking, "They are gonna be huge."

Hi Richard;
I´d trade a couple of my fingers for the ZZ or Cooper experience; in 1973 and 1971, respectively. ZZ (" 'CeeCee'? They were called Zed Zed when we played with them back in ´74 [?], and they´re called zed zed now... " Bill said , as Ian McLagan writes in his book, on Wymans sense for acurateness... ).
Cooper bumped into me and a daughter of mine a few years ago in our little town at the Swedish subartcic highlands uttermost windswept seashore. He was doing some sightseeing and shopping with h i s daughter, I was told, later. - Heep I saw in ´85. Mick Box like a livin rubber ball and one hell of a guitar player, doin his hand shakin all the time with almost the whole audience.
Anyone on Tell Me that saw Nazareth during their heydays?
I tend to forget some of the moments of mine... Iggy Pop (Roskilde) 1986 was a rough one. Nico (Glädjehuset, Sthlm)... I believe in the same year, was smashing. Same with Babatunde Tony Ellis Roskilde ´82; The Waterboys (twice in the 80´s, cant sort it out). I saw Soundtrack Of Our Lives when they were Union Carbide Productions: A milestone in rock 'n' roll history, Knogjärn 90 in Göteborg early 1990. Other stuff: The Cult, The Alarm, Lou Reed (stank), The Pixies, Leonard Cohen (mainly Roskilde memories 1982-89).
Still; I havent seen Stones (why do I keep telling this all the time...)

Damn Sam! what I would have given to see any of those gigs!!!!! green with Jealosy!!!! If you can remember would you be so kind to describe them?

my top 3
1.Stones Oakland 99 (opening night, no security tour, they were on fire and the best set list of any of the 11 times I have seen them.
2.The Clash San Francisco 82(same as jss said about cape cod, "mick and joe tore off the roof "
3.Stones Manchester 03(I am shocked when I read some bad reviews from the posters here about this gig, I thought the band was in top form and inspired this night!!!

worst 3
1.Guns and Roses Los Angeles 89 (opening for the Stones, god they were really awful! what a dissapointment!!!)
2.The Who Oakland 89, It really saddened me that one of my fav bands would have let some guest guitar player do almost all the work, Townsend was strumming a barely audible accoustic for half the show!!!)
3.Duran Duran early 80's? Oakland(ok stop laughing! I was a teenager just wanting to score, there were 15,000 teenage girls at this gig!!!!! smiling smiley

1: Stones - Wiltern
2: Tom Waits - Wiltern - probably
3: Patti Smith - Oh, probably Hollywood Athletic Club

(would have posted Iggy Pop & David Byrne as well - other greats are Nina Simone, Cesaria Evora, the Blasters, B.B. King around 96' - oh hell, i've seen too many great shows to keep track).

Worst:

1: Pearl Jam - open for the Stones
2: Bryan Adams - open for the Stones
3: Star Sailor - open for the Stones

Ket

Hendrix in '68 was aewsome. The Jimi Hendrix Experience played Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Foxy Lady and others.

No fancy stage, just music at an affordable price $8.00 or $9.00 if I remember correctly.

I've seen Stevie Ray, he was very good but he was not Hendrix. Nothing compares to the original.

Led Zep, they were touring behind Led Zeplin II. They played Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love. They opened with Imigrant Song. A fantastic show.

Stones 72, Mick as the TRUE definition of a Rock Star at that time. There were no 2 1/2 shows in '72, again it was about the music. Brown Sugar, Gimmer Shelter, Bitch, All Down The Line to name a few.

1. RS - Enmore, Sydney 2003 (2 years ago!)
2. RS - Columbia, SC 1994
3. Sting - Hampton 1991

Midnight Rambler was such a great surprise opener in Sydney. Plus all the cover tunes rocked. Monkey Man was my all time favorite surprise in Columbia in 1994 - back before you could read the set lists every night on the internet. I've always loved that tune and never imagined I'd hear it live.

Worst:

1. Sting - Washington, DC 2004
2. ?
3. ?

I've liked most of the shows I've seen.

#1) Stones - Madison Sq. Garden, NY - Thanksgiving night 1969
#2) Rory Gallagher / Faces - MSG, NY - circa 1972
#3) Heads, Hands & Feet / Humble Pie - Asbury Park Convention Hall, NJ - circa 1971

Concert today just don't seem to have the aura and energy as they did back then. No more euphoric aromas in the air these days either!

Besides any of the 30 Stones and solo shows, I'll take this opportunity to put this out there in the slim hopes that someone else saw this show and remembers it like I do:

The Kinks - Soap Opera - 1974 or 1975. (PS, I became Norman)
