Oakland May 2013 show planning

Please use this thread for Oakland Rolling Stones show planning.

This will be the meeting place for downtown SF, close to Union Square and BART stations on Market:

Cable Car City Pub & Cafe
1 Hallidie Plaza
San Francisco, CA 94102
(415) 398-7600
[www.cablecarpub.com]

One block west of Powell and Market st., between Edy St and Market. I was there in January. They have plenty of draft beer, happy hour, beer by pitcher (jar), burgers, fish'n'ships and so on, large space and room for talking, more like a sports bar.

It's a pretty desolate area honestly...but you can hope on Bart (info on Bart : [answers.yahoo.com]) and be back on the other side of the Bay very easily. Are you flying in for a few days?

There are a lot of decent hotels nearby adjacent to the Oakland International Airport - Hilton, Courtyard.

No, roadtrippin'. I'm doing Rt 66 to the coast. Then up St Rt 1. Hit Oakland, San Jose and then Vegas.

An excellent idea. BART stops very near the Colesium and that area of Oakland is a bit spotty...

some decent, affordable motels on University Avenue in Berkeley, with easy access to BART, too...plus a chance to explore the UC campus and hit Amoeba Records on Telegraph...billed as the largest independent record/cd store in the country...and you got Top Dog and Blondie's Pizza and other great eats.....all within walking distance of Univ Ave....

You won't miss the stop — they'll call it out as "50 and counting." I recall that after the Loma Prieta Quake in '89, the Bay Bridge was out so BART was, for many, the most direct and easiest way in. BART announced the stop not by its regular name, but rather, as the stop for the Voodoo Lounge.

'89 was Steel Wheels wasn't it? But yeah, I seem to recall announcements of that sort when taking BART to the Coliseum for Stones shows.

Also, regarding GRNRBITW's recommendation of Berkeley, that would do as well!

Wow that should be good fun! Since you're driving you coud park at the venue (that's what I did when I went to one of the 1997 shows at the Colisseum) and then drive up to Berkeley as suggested, or stay parked over there and Bart your way down.

Just got this e mail from my brother in Oakland:

For the heck of it I just went online and found I would be able to get 2 pretty good seats for the May 5 show in Oakland.

But 1,270 would cover a Sea Ranch rental for about 9 days! And that's just the sub-total! It doesn't count mis-handling fees and all the other "fees" that they attach.

So, I said "Da hell with you, you damn ape!"

"decent" motels on University Ave ? You have to be kidding me. There is nothing of the sort there. It would ruin your trip. If you have the money to travel to the Bay Area to see the Stones you should be able to afford a decent hotel in SF. So that is the best advice: stay in SF, BART to the Coliseum and make a night of it.

At least you'd be able to go in your wheelchair....would they knock anything off the price for not having to use stadium seating?

going back to an earlier concept. i wonder if they would consider just severing a finger or a toe for each song. wouldn't have to lose a whole limb that way....and fingers and toes eventually grow back, right?
