One More Shot
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards / Steve Jordan)

Guillaume Tell Studios Davout, Suresnes, Paris, France, August 20 - 23, 2012

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, backing vocals, percussion
Keith Richards - electric guitar, backing vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Ron Wood - electric guitar
Darryl Jones - bass
Chuck Leavell - piano, organ

Ooh baby, I've got a message for you
You've got me doing something I thought I never would do

Give me one more, one more shot
And it’s all I got, give me one more shot

And take me back, I’m all yours Jack

Yeah, you got me freaking, yeah I’m overheating
Just when things are sweet, you catch me in the street

Give me one more, one more shot, yeah, and it’s all I got
And don't hang up on me, oh yeah, one more shot

Make your play, yeah, make my day

Put me in correction for my own protection
In your jurisdiction, spare the crucifixion

Give me one more shot, baby, it's all I've got
Baby, don’t freeze up on me, one more shot

I love, I love, I love, I love, I love, I love ya
I love, I love, I love, I love, I love, I love ya
I love, I love, I love, I love, I love ya.

One more shot, give me one, give me one more shot
Yeah, and it’s all I've got, just one more
One more shot, give me one, give me one more, one
Give me one more shot
Yeah, baby, give me one more shot
Give me one, give me one more

Produced by The Glimmer Twins & Don Was

First released on:

Loved Doom & Gloom but thought this was just average, filler material. The song worked better live but it's hardly a song I'd reach out to play if I had all the Stones' albums in front of me.

I can well believe it. Anyway, it's bloody awful. Hate it, and wish they hadn't inflicted upon us in the five 2012 shows. God knows, I dread the thought of hearing it AGAIN in the 2013 shows. Drop it boys please ......... NOW !!

Agreed, Silver Dagger. This is substandard, and it's kind of sad that (besides Doom and Gloom) this is all they could come up with after a 7-year hiatus. The main problem is that it seems so haphazard and unfinished. There is the germ of a great song here, but it was not realized. Instead, we get an awkward, half-baked melody with "na na na" and "I love I love I love" inserted in lieu of real lyrics. Still, those X-Pensive Wino backing vox are cool.

You can picture the scenario - the band have been on hold for 5 years. But Jagger quickly does his accounting and realises the boys need some new product to play live and raise interest in yet another hits album.

Jagger uses one of the songs he's saved for his next solo album but catches Keith on the hop who has to come up with something pretty quick. And One More Shot is the result. Maybe.....

Great tune! Went to Mexico in january and played this one endlessly, fitted the enviroment well with all the bump and ladies. Much better than D & G.

It's a PROPER Stones song and it SHOUD sound like this, sloppy and "shot". D & G could've come from any old band.

I hope they open the may/june shows with it just to shut all the moaners's mouths.

I guess that it is a nice summary of how the actual events took place.

Since the new tracks were put under such a scrutiny last year, and now put on the rest, I do not go there. I just say something positive I find in them. Namely, contra to A BIGGER BANG material I like the "joyful" atmosphere the new tracks have (both of them). There is something fresh in their delivery that A BIGGER BANG lacks. I guess they had fun in the studio, and they spent so little time, and had so little to do, that they din't get bored, or didn't need to work their asses off.

I didn't really care for it at first, I thought it was kind of boring. But the day of the Newark PPV I found myself humming a song, and I was like "wait a minute, that's catchy, what song is that?". After a few minutes I realized it was One More Shot. Then later during the PPV when they played it I really enjoyed it. So since then I've liked it quite a bit. It took a little bit to grow on me but it did. I know it's not groundbreaking or anything, but it's pretty catchy. And I find both songs from GRRR! to be masterpieces in comparison to the Forty Licks tracks.

IT'S CATCHY BECAUSE AC/DC WROTE IT IN 1980.
YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG?

Who cares if it sounds a little like an AC/DC song, it is catchy. I listen to it a lot through headphones where you can really hear the guitars and vocal harmonies.

I really like both of the new songs, but I agree, One More Shot sounded much better live than Doom and Gloom.

Nothing wrong with B side songs, the Stones have many great ones. Wasn't Ruby Tuesday the B side to Let's Spend the Night Together? cool smiley

Your right latebloomer but I was not quoting to the Stones B-Sides but in general B-Side are fillers

I know NICOS, hence the cool smiley. smiling smiley

But I have often wondered, what exactly do people mean by fillers? It seems to be just an easy word to use for a song that isn't up to single status, or maybe for a song that fits into the category of you don't hate, but also don't love it either.

Anyone want to define it for me?

The musical allusion to Streetfighting Man is pretty weird!
Despite or perhaps because of that, this one's grown on me more than D&G, although I like them both.

Actually more sounding like a Stones song than D&G. Now I like it better than Jagger's. One can hear easily they didn't worked much on it but it has this inner feeling of a classical Stones song. You can't be mistaken on who wrote it.

It fits the bill in more ways than one.
The first "oooooohhhhhh baaybeeeeeeeeeeh" made me chuckle.
It sounded like Mick keeping in Keith's typical vocal pre-amble from his demo cut... I reckon he sung it for the laugh.

I hear echoes of both How I wish and Mixed emotions in the song. Cousins?

You can almost draw a line from Street Fighting Man through How I Wish, Mixed Emotions and One More Shot - they all start with almost the same intro.

It gets even worse if you consider the inordinate amount of time one has to spend complaining about it.

I liked both new songs on the London shows.
What the heck they is always a whiner in the row who finds something. I agree it sounds like a repetition of other songs.
Anyway they played it fresh and raw. And that's what counts.
By the way I never listen to any Stones music on the box only live, because that's the place where they kick!

It starts off great but then the mediocre lyrics kick in and you realize it is a bit of a disappointment. The chorus is TERRIBLE. It doesn't go anywhere. "Shook Me All Night Long" but without the punch.

To make matters worse, the 'nah nah nah nah' refrain sounds like the theme song to Friends. TERRIBLE. EMBARRASSING. Friends who dig the Stones could not believe that nah nah nah nah part...

A flat, insubstantial album track that brings the album quality down as a whole because you always have to skip over it to get to the other good songs. And if it's the last song on the album, then you stop listening after the song before, which makes you feel cheated because you feel there should be one more song there, one you would want to listen to like all the rest.
