Bootlegs

Don't waste time asking for places selling bootlegs. Or replying to such posts. Selling bootlegs is illegal. If you post the name of a shop or a person selling bootlegs, such posts will be removed.

Do you mean that you don't own any bootlegs because they are illegal or do you want to protect the shops that sell them?

Cheers,

The Stones actually employ people to read all the boards very carefully for posts advertising the sale of bootlegs and anything infringing copyright and have a record of busting people selling them, as well as taking action to confiscate the stock of shops who do so (they did that in Dublin after the Stones shows there in 2003)

silly, ain't it? not the board policy, but the Stones' sensitivity to the bootleg business.

Question: Is it OK to tell about trades? Is that legal at all?

So you don't allow links to bootleg sellers, but you allow people to sell bootlegs directly on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum? Why is this?

then you would think the stones would get the hint and put
this stuff out themselves instead of making us hunt for it
serves them right, boots and boot shops will never be stopped
its just silly for the stones too even try, boy they really sold out
so does this mean keith and woody are going to have to turn in
the boots that they own and have said that they collect, its ridiculous

Seems like the rules are getting tight here. We can no longer post anything that is negative to the Stones (even if in a published paper) and we can not mention bootlegs anymore. What's next?

I suppose Bjornulf wants to keep a good image with Stones management. Understandable. They are good to him. He can't be seen to condone these activities.

That is ridiculous bootlegs are the main intrest on this board. If Stones insists putting pressure on Bjornulf about this they should release some decent live recordings instead.

This is such a non issue I find it strange anyone would care.
Bootlegs are a fact of the music industry like it or not.
Bust people all you want it will stop nothing.

It is hypocritical to deny people discussing the places where to buy bootlegs when we are supposedly free to trade them.
Trading or selling, the fact remains the product itself is still illegal.

Perhaps because of this we may have to refrain from any mention of Ebay in future.

As for posting drunk, stoned etc, BV has actually mentioned that more than once.
We are not supposed to post when drunk or loaded.
I still wonder how the irony of the drunk thread was missed because of this rule coupled with BVs semi defence of it.

Btw, if you are looking for a hitman gimme a call.
He is an excellent shot and will pretty much kill anyone for you provided you give him a Stones boot.

Try and sell him one and he will kill you instead.
He's a fiesty lad.

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

Re: Bootlegs

I support bv for this actually...
My favourite record stores were ones which never displayed bootlegs with official cds, you'd have to ask them over the counter and there was normally a password that you would have to use for them to show you what boots they had in stock.
If people start naming stores that supply bootlegs around the world then perhaps these stores might get busted.

Guys who sell boots via this website do so at their own peril....but I don't think it's fair for people to name record stores, without theior consent, that also sell bootlegs to fans like us. It's these stores that get busted and our "favourite" record stores are shut down!

I find this Strange Gazza, ironic to say the least, If YOU Get MY DRIFT!

Why aren't some fans busted at the Shows, taping the stuff then? Believe me, the STONES know, those fans who do it, AND have actually seen the gear too, if you get my drift?

Esky where is this record store?

the record stores I'm referring to are in Melbourne....it was handy to have one up the road which would have a variety of bootlegs every month or so....if they got busted then I'd have to drive to get my bootlegs - but that would be against the law as well because I'd be drunk.....You can't win!

But these days if I want a bootleg I go to eBay anyway....

You'd be surprised how many people on the web get busted...!

I've got an audio recording of Mick buying bootlegs in a shop... VERY interesting! He's looking for 60's shows he doesn't own... He asks about the quality and so on. Just like a RS fan would do...!!!
The quality of this recording is only fair, but quite funny to listen to!

Please use your brains guys. It is not Friday afternoon and drinking time, or? If you post the name of your favorite bootleg store here on IORR, what happens next week? It is closed down may be. So why do I give you all these advices? Do I have to spell it out? Just common sense and some experience in life is needed here. Sorry I have to spell it out.

It is not illegal to own or buy bootlegs. I don't care if you own 1000's of bootlegs, and I don't care if you sell a spare copy to a friend. Some record stores have a small box hidden away in the shelf somewhere, with some extra goodies. They don't make any money from it. But there are many officials who want to take these away.

PS. Mick, Keith and the rest of the band do not worry about bootlegs, in a smaller scale. They sign them. They collect them. Some bootlegs have great covers. Like Drinking and Dancing. Legendary. But don't mess up things guys.

Bjornulf...I'm sure we all fully understood what you were originally warning us about but somehow it just got stirred with a bit of humour and playful jostling.

Nothing nasty intended, it was just the boys being boys.

they DO get busted. Personally, I dont think the BAND themselves are too bothered, but if you're taping, videoing or even photographing any show, you're liable to get your equipment confiscated by security if you're seen. Hence the warning on your ticket about recording.

I think most acts would be relatively ambivalent about fans taping the shows if they were 100% sure the music was just going to be traded without money changing hands.

Many bands are of course "taper friendly" and allow fans to record the shows. The Dead being the best known example. However, that doesnt mean they sanction bootlegging, which is a different market entirely. The Dead have actually gone after and prosecuted people for SELLING bootleg LP/CDs of their shows. Many major acts have done the same.

Talking about bootlegs all should get Mick Taylor's gig from the 100 club london
from 8/28/03 its fantastic and better than any stones show from the live licks
tour.Taylor and his band do a 21 minute vamp of CYHMK sorry stones its taylor's
signature song he has played live after he left.

Taylor now has the edge with the glimmers its funny as a musician grows older making studio records and hits go away its all about playing your music live
and having the ability to play at a high level which taylor still has.Why anyone
would want to go to a stones live show these days is hard for me to understand
since its not about the music its about the money.Go see Taylor play and support
him.Don,t worry the glimmers have all the money and fame and there will always
be that audience who want to listen to the hits they have been playing since
1981
