All Stones reggae related tracks:

Luxury
Cherry Oh Baby
Send It To Me
Feel On Baby
Too Rude
You Don't Have To Mean It

...and anymore I might be missing

Sure, they're clearly not great reggae artists but are these songs really bad by any means? I personally don't think so.

Luxury is by far the best on the list, but I wouldn't consider it reggae, though this has been discussed ad nauseam in various other threads for years now.

You are missing Cracking Up, original version or the El Mocambo version. The original Bo Diddley track was amazingly reggae sounding and the stones later version even more so. The most convincing reggae sounding track they have ever done if you ask me.

The first song I am aware of that has a tinge of reggae is Shine A Light, shortly before and in the beginning of the chorus there are a few reggae beats. The chorus lends itself to be played as a reggae.

Luxury I always thought had a mini-reggae beat to it
Hey Negrita is more funk than anything else
Shine A Light? Not in the slightest does that have a trace of reggae

Go e.g. to 00'58" here: [www.youtube.com], it's just two bars but very clear.

I'm not really an expert with reggae so someone else would have to come to a conclusion on whether that's reggae or not in that small bit

I know what you mean. However, even if the rhythm guitar plays off beat-chords in the chorus, SAL remains a gospel tune.

SAL couldn't be further removed from the reggae idiom.

A Good Reggae Song: You got to Walk and Don't Look Back

A Bad Reggae Song : Cherry oh Baby

Black -n Blue has other issues as well such as Crazy Mama but COC is very destructive.

Walk and Don’t look is boring......
Words of a Wonder is wonderful....
Love the organ work and backing vocals in COB

Cherry is a great cover. And it got better and better on stage too.

I understand if someone doesn't like it, but I don't get those who criticize the stones for not being able to nail reggae correctly.

Who cares if it is pure reggae or not? The vibe is there.

Exactly! smoking smiley

And when the Stones finally did it live in 2002, it was Smokey's version.

Maybe this is the correct way- If so -then it is the vocals of the Stones version that is questionable ? just saying-

That's why I only said it's got a tinge of reggae, just hinted at in a few places by the guitar and organ and the drum beat in the chorus.

Reggae and gospel aren't that far apart. You could easily arrange No Woman No Cry as a gospel tune.

It's even closer the way Ronnie plays it on Stripped.

In 2013-2014 Keith played reggae-licks on Emotional Rescue, but...

I really like the Stones version of Cherry Oh Baby, but I have to say I like the Eric Donaldson original version more. Ironically , before this thread reemerged I was playing it almost daily.

For me the best Stones reggae track is You don't have to mean it...
