Just love this track. It's charming and has lots of feel.

The live version was brilliant! thumbs up

I have to respectfully disagree.

The feel is all wrong unless they were going for "lethargic".

This is not a reggae band, Charlie and Bill don't have the reggae chops and Keith is sluggish.

Mick's melody is wrong as well.

I like this one

This cover does nothing compared to Eric Donaldson. The guitar, the drums, bass and singing everything is bad compared to Eric. The only thing thats ok is Billy Prestons organ.

Can't agree with you.

Firstly, I'm not sure if Bill is on this one at all.

Secondly, I find Keith's licks brilliant. The way the guitar licks and the bass is tied together is fantastic, and was very inspirational for me as a guitarist back in the day.

Thirdly, Mick was all camp anyway round that time, and poking a little fun in this one, did the song nothing but good, imo.

Finally, the recording of this track is excellent.

The only weak link may be Charlie, but I don't care. There are many styles of music he really doesn't "master", but he always makes it sound like the Stones.

In the "glam-time" of vanity and make up, this one was a breath of fresh air and tossed the band's pompousness out the window, imo grinning smiley

PS: An interpretation can't be "wrong", really, can it?

It took me awhile to warm to the Stones' CHERRY but now I love it.

From >>> [www.ronniewoodshow.com] >>> "When last heard from, Donaldson was the proprietor of the Cherry Oh Baby Go-Go Bar in his hometown Kent Village, in the Jamaican countryside."

I thought it was merely Respectable...the singer...not the song

If you didn't know about Cherry, perhaps you missed this one also -

Mick covered this track on Wandering Spirit

With so many guitar players they sort of needed that....but agreed a great sleeve!

I concur on all counts (except Charlie, I think he nails it as well!). Such a great cover, I've loved it from first listen -- and this song in particular got me interested in reggae to begin with!

I'll ask once again: why were the Stones on Sanibel Island? For the sole purpose of a photo shoot? That seems incongruous to say the least but I've yet to find an explanation.

I don't know for sure, but I can take a guess. Maybe after finishing the album they wanted to go relax in a bit of a warmer climate before starting the '76 tour. They finished up the album in New York in February, and then shot the cover later that month. It may have not been hot (depending on what you consider hot, but I'm from Texas where we have our own sun) in Florida, but much warmer than New York. A Google search says the average temp on Sanibel during the winter months is 75°F (24°C), which probably seems like paradise after a New York winter. I don't know whether or not they went straight from New York to Florida though. Maybe they were doing something else closer down that way, but still, New York to Fort Myers (which is where I'm assuming they flew to) would only take a couple of hours.

It was more than likely the best place for Keef to score the best grade heroin. He was heavily addicted at this time and the band's logistics more or less revolved around the accessibility of cocaine and heroin for Keith.

Jagger and Wood had rented houses there after the 1975 tour. They lived there for a year or so.

I think it's a good cover. Obviously doesn't touch the original by Donaldson but it's a fun song on BLACK AND BLUE. Mick did the vocals more like the original version during the first take of the song in late '74.

I really enjoy the Stones playing reggae - "Too Rude" is a great cover.

Generally speaking, the Stones and reggae just don't mix well, and this is a fine example of how bad it can get.
