Disclaimer- I haven't read all the other pages in this thread. But, if there's no new album, of which they'd likely play one, maybe two new songs, I've seen this tour several times in the last 15 years already. I see no need to fork over large amounts of money for a show that I essentially already have in my own personal memory bank, not to mention several DVDs. Wouldn't surprise me if others feel the same.

If they are too lazy to come together and produce a new album then the 12-15-'12 concert was it for me.

Well, I don't know if it's laziness, or lack of inspiration, or a feeling of been there, done that for them, or what. I wouldn't blame them for not wanting to do another album. Let's face it, even they have to know that they haven't done a new album up to "Stones Standards" in decades. There's a few songs on each one that are fair to good, maybe even just passable, but when after the last live Stones note is finally played, no one is going to talk about Doom and Gloom in the same breath as the songs we now all call the War Horses. It's obvious the band, or somebody in the band, thinks You Got Me Rocking ranks up there somehow, but it's really rather pedestrian, but still how far back does THAT one go now?

The 12/15/12 show, with the exception of Mick Taylor (I can't really count Wyman because for all he did, he might as well have been a cardboard cut out standing there), was nothing different. The gimmicks of having Lady Gaga (ab-so-lute-ly horrible) and other singers take away from the band dynamic. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars to see that in a stadium. Again.

Caveat- if they added Taylor as a third guitarist, I'd be more interested. And by added I mean fully integrated, not to play on a handful of songs. He's easily the best player on stage when he's there, at least in my opinion. Wyman brings nothing anymore, apparently.

Great news BV thanks! Just cashed in miles for trip to Lost Wages. East coast dates also....Nothing will ever replace the summers of the late 60's and early 70's but this summer sounds like the next best thing!!

It is supposed to be a surprise. I don't want to ruin that part. If you live in USA you will be well covered both East Coast and West Coast. More than a handful shows but not a lot. If you live if Europe you need to travel. Not far but don't expect them to come to your doorstep.

Sounds promising. Thanks for the update.

That's serious stuff...it could end up costing the Stones hundreds of dollars.

If they are doing Glastonbury and this now appears more likely as the cash has been raised by selling full broadcast rights, I'll be surprised if they do another UK festival.

I think they would prefer to finally play the new Wembley . Just a thought.

My understanding would then be : 8 arena shows in the US ( 2 MSG, 2 Boston, 2 LA, 1SF and 1 Vegas) and 1 show ( not 2 as unable to fill it) at London Olympic Stadium on Mick's birthday as a last bow.

I hope they'll not only do Glastonbury, it's sold out, there will be some tickets on sale in april from the cancelled orders, so i might need to register for that it seems just in case... or will they play some shows in europe/UK besides that? i live in holland myself, but i wouldn't mind to go to London to see them (although it would be cheaper and better if they did play in Amsterdam, but i already expected them not to come here) Hard Rock Calling is fine with me too. been to HRC once, in Hyde Park it was cool. but now with the new location it will be a lot better.

If they only do Glastonbury, i hope i will get hold on a ticket then. i already wanted to for years so this could be the perfect opportunity.

Let's see, choices in L.A.......

Staples
Sports arena
Hollywood Bowl (always more expensive for the better seats)
Honda Center (Anaheim)
Home Depot Center (...a stadium, but smaller than most)
Forum? I think is currently under a renovation

...then you have the stadiums....god I hope not!

bv has already said it will be Staples earlier in this thread. It'll be the biggest thing to hit Staples since Michael Jackson's casket.

My guess would be LA, SF, Seattle, Vancouver, and Las Vegas for the west and at least Boston and New York in the east.

Summer dates at Madison Square Garden might be a non-starter, as the final phase of renovations will begin ASAP after the Knicks and Rangers wrap up their respective seasons.

I am finding myself caring less and less as the days pass by. If they don't surprise us with a new album sometime this summer then I will look back to 12-15-'12 as a fitting climax to my career as a Stones follower. Besides, James McCartney has a new album out this spring. Looks like he will be my future until he joins up with the other Sons of the Beatles later in the decade.

Not an insider at all. Just a guess. A bit disappointed for Europe but just one show is great after all. Who would have anticipated this 50 years ago !!! or six years ago.

Staples is horrible, no way I would even pay $120 for what that would get me, not that I would pay any more to see anybody.

I don't think I've ever heard a good sounding concert in Staples. Saw the Stones there in 2002 and it was a flat show. In L.A. they've also played the Wiltern and the Palladium, and of course the Santa Monica Civic Center. The last time I saw them in L.A. was at Dodger Stadium, which is only good if you have floor seats. Oh, forgot the Rose Bowl, where I saw them for the Voodoo Lounge tour. They usually like to pick out somewhere they've never played before, especially if they were to do a small sized gig.

Hopefully they will offer some show in Europe as Glastonbury is completely sold out. Or at least offer some tickets for the Stones set only.

Sure they could have played pubs and bars with no risk, but after 50 years I think they want to do like they did in the past, real great shows, real great stages, real great places (venues) and so on. That's why Las Vegas, Staples, Glastonbury and such places come into play...

That's twice bv has specifically mentioned Staples. That's as good as DONE DEAL, don't ya think?

The only 2 realistic options for the types of gigs they are doing is Staples Center and Hollywood Bowl.

Staples - lots of open dates in the projected time period. Hollywood Bowl season starts June 22 but is available for lease events as early as March.

I don't think they ever intentionally tried to play different venues each time so much as choose what was available at the time.

1989 - Dodger Stadium too small for what they were doing, Rose Bowl has a strict concert approval process etc and the Coliseum could seat up to 90,000 for reserved seating concerts.

1994 - 2 years after the LA riots and what was percieved as a strong reluctance by the middle class concert going public to go to the LA Coliseum for events, so the promoter went before the Pasadena city council to get approved. That's how I first heard they (and Pink Floyd) were touring in 1994, it was announced in the first week of Jan that the shows were approved by the city council.

1997 - megastadiums not really needed this time so Dodger Stadium would suffice for 2 shows.

1999 - Arrowhead Pond, the state of the art new arena, ditto for Staples in 2002.

LA Sports Arena right now is used sometimes for independently promoted gigs or by AEG/Goldenvoice who has always been creative about finding the most suitable acts for its gigs. Personally requested by Bruce Springsteen because he didn't want to play Staples. They may not even be able to accomodate a big production.

Nice to see a fellow student on here, one thing I will say is that the UK student loan came in handy for last years ticket even though it meant substantially reducing my food budget for a few weeks.
Having been to HRC do you know whether artists play full sets or just short ones? Here's hoping that we'll see them for a second and last time, I wish sometimes that I was born in the 80s so I could have caught more shows over the past decade!

Headline acts play full sets at Hard Rock. I saw McCartney in 2010 and he played about 160 mins . Bruce Springsteen infamously cut short by the authorities a couple of years ago, but played a long set.

HRC has 1 big ''headliner'' at each night (3 days), i saw it more as a concert from the artist with more support acts. smiling smiley I was at HRC last year (i was on vacation in London), Bruce started on time, but he always has very long shows. they hit the curfew which is 22.30 , so they cut it short. but Hyde Park curfew is ridiculous. so now it's at Olympic Park (that it was it's called right?). the curfew will be longer now, i'm sure. if the Stones will play there, they'll play their normal set, so around 2 hours or more.
and... Me too! if only we were born in the right decade smiling smiley
