Probably right after Mr. Ahmet Etgren convinced the cop about to bust them that Keiths large bag of cocaine was actually clown face make-up. lol.

Here he is doing all his "moves" probably started big time in 89...

I like when musicians show they are having fun on stage. Angus Young is always running around. Dave Grohl never stops moving. Both of them put on a great show. I also like the way The stones fool around on stage. It's part of seeing a live band.

as long as it's not at the expense of the music...i don't want them to have too much fun or it could cut into the fun i'm having listening to them...

I like the the way Keith acts on stage till the Urban Jungle Tour. I think he was great in 81. Now he an Ron are just embarassing on stage. Do they do this because they can`t play like they used to?

Is it that Keith wants to keep his R&R pirate image alive? I figure he started this leg kicking and acting in 1989 and it gets worse and worse. Hopefully he focuses more on the guitar in the possible forthcoming tour and let Ronnie be the clown smiling smiley

I think he started to physically kick ass funny on stage in 1978. Then he developped new moves: genuflexions, touching of Head-heart&balls, facial expressions, throwing of the pick, throwing of the fag, punching of the Ron, worshipping of the Watts, the split, the monkey etc... I love Keith, he is great to watch because he loves to have fun;it's only rock and roll.

i can remember some of those leg kicks on the '81 tour...but in those days he could kick out his legs and still play the guitar in an amazing demonstration of multi-tasking...

I think clowning around is a bit of what Ron Wood and Rod Stewart would do so for that, I think that might be one source. Faces were different than the Stones but at times, similarities, Faces did "sweet little rock and roller" by Chuck Berry. I also wonder if you might have some of this so called clowning around in the Harlem Shuffle video? Perhaps.

Well, guess his antics did start in 89 but Jagger has acted like a bigger idiot on stage since the same tour. He started "getting it" at the TAMI show(trying to keep up with James Brown I guess) and was great up until 89, then HE has been a clown. Well, he was starting to get a little silly in 81/82 but I think thats cause he had too much room to run and thought he had to use every inch of the stage.

Too bad he doesn't sing as well. I love the Bob, but to mumble your way through an entire performance is inexcusable, imo.

It seems to me his movements before '89 were more "natural" and that around '89 he started to develop a lot of affectations. At first some of them were charming but he has overdone it, imo. Sometimes at a show I would watch him walking all over the stage doing these little bits of stage business when I found myself wishing he would just play the goddamn guitar.

Lol, yeah. But the difference is in 1978 and 1981 it didnt look stupid. And he played like a freaking God. In 1981 heroin should be out of his system so maybe that gave him a little more energy. The amounts of coke of course. Since 1989 all those expressions are part of the act.

Never did mind Keith's antics on stage. On the contrary, his bodylanguage defines him on stage. Of course, nowadays, you wish he could spend more time actually playing the notes than grimacing. The clownery comes down to Ronnie and as a second fiddle to Keith he too has adopted Keith's manners (airplaying, grimacing). Unfortunatelly!

I asked a classmate if he liked the Eagles and he said, "I did until I saw them live and all they did was just stand there." (Although what did he expect from the dullest band alive?)

His first kick landed squarely on Mick's balls causing permanent swelling. Mick has had enormous balls ever since. Can't believe I just said that! Maybe I am a teenager after all!

When Ron Wood joined the band I read, the Stones got a little bit lighter, more humor. I think that's clear in that Black and Blue is a much less serious album than the previous 2.

Too much booze sometimes for sure, but the great majority of the time like Rockman says Keith's movements have always been musical. And essential as far as I'm concerned.

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. The man certainly knows how to have a good time. Reminds me of myself just last night prancing around my living room listening to When The Whip Comes Down from Live In Texas.

Yes, I agree. It's never been just about the music. It's a live act. It's a show.

Well Esky I'd say you know shi*e about what makes The Stones such a great band. It's what you DON'T play that matters and cause Mick T was way too loud in the mix and most likely also on the stage it made Keith wanna play as much as possible just cos he got really frustrated with the sound. Just listen to BS from 72-73. AWFUL. There are to fields where you can't compete. The first one is LOVE. The second one is MUSIC.

When Ronnie arrived it was back to 2 weaving guitars, that's what the Stones are about. If ya don't dig it go listen to Deep Purple or Metallica or summat else.

I thought we had cleared up this discussion a LONG time ago.

If anyone doesn't want to see Keith moving around on stage please buy me a ticket for their 50TH Anniversary Tour and I'll go watch him do what ever he wants to on stage! I think 50 years of performing in front of who knows how many people has helped him find his comfort zone.

I have many times and quite like it, especially the cut on 'Brussels'. To call it 'AWFUL' is a gross overstatement, in my view of course.

Are you employing the imperial 'we' in this case?
