But you're right, I'm sure Charlie understands, and if Bill wants a larger role--or any role--in the upcoming shows, then I'm sure Charlie would put in the god word, because the two of them are still in frequent contact, and Charlie's word could make all the difference.

Sorry to be going on a bit of a tangent here, but about Charlie's role I was a bit surprised to read in Norman's book about Mick that Charlie had a bit of a "father figure"/"wise man" role in the Stones and that he was the only one whose opinion/approval Mick really seeked.

I think it's safe to assume why Taylor is postponing shows now, just weeks ahead of a Stones band meeting. In all likelihood, these shows were scheduled before his guest appearances with The Stones. They--Taylor and The Stones--just wanted to see how those appearances would go before any further plans were made--or cancelled.

While a plausible explanation for cancelling the April Australia dates, there were two shows scheduled for this weekend, preceding the upcoming meeting.

The Green Hotel website says Saturday's show is "Cancelled due to illness".

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mick!

He's waiting for Lady Gaga to get better so she can join him onstage.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the planned shows in Reeth, Kinross and the Austrailian tour have been postponed.

Yet again?

These circumstances need to be upgraded to the foreseen level of circumstances. Or at least the predictable level.

Mick T's "cancellation" and "postponement" announcements to ticket holders resemble the way the airlines communicate to passengers.

Ex-Rolling Stone Cancels Aus Tour Over Health Worries

22 February, 2013

Former Rolling Stones member Mick Taylor has cancelled his April Australian tour today due to ill health.

Originally intending to kick off Thursday 18 April in Adelaide and then work his way around the east coast, promoter Aldo Lennard of Lennard Promotions confirmed to theMusic.com.au that the tour has been cancelled, with no immediate hopes of a reschedule.

“Due to Mick Taylor’s current ill health, the tour has unfortunately been cancelled,” his statement to theMusic read. “Lennard Promotions apologies for any inconvenience caused to fans and wishes Mick Taylor a speedy recovery. All patrons will received a full refund for the tickets by contacting their place of purchase.”

He added, “It is hoped that another tour with Mick Taylor can be arranged sometime in the future.”

Taylor, who joined the Rolling Stone after the death of guitarist Brian Jones, has also postponed his Scottish dates.

I think both Mick and Keith really respect him, and he carries a LOT of weight in the band. I've seen several interviews where Mick and Keith talk about how they wouldn't dare continue on without him and stuff like that. They talk about him in sort of the same way they talk about the late Mister Stu.

What hanger on? And why would a hanger on not want Taylor to tour? Wouldn't a hanger on want Taylor to be making as much money as possible? Broke people don't have too many hanger-ons.

I am just hoping his 'ill health' and canceling Oz shows that far in advance don't mean that he maybe plunged back into using after the December shows. From what I understand, drugs and alcohol took a very heavy toll on him previously. Hopefully hanging with Keith, back in front of a big audience, and (hopefully) a decent payday, did not fuel any old fires.

I was thinking that could be a pretty big trigger for him. I don't know much about the extent of his problems though, or if he was recovering or still on that horse prior to the shows. Hopefully he's OK.

Meanwhile, March dates in Spain are posted on www.micktaylor.com and are being promoted in the Spanish press.

Australia is unforseen in April and thus cancelled, while the crystal ball is clear as day and Spain is good to go in March? Hmm, maybe it's only good for one month out.

This doesn't bode well for posssibly touring with the Stones. I hope he's ok.

Good call, guess he is just planning to be ill in April.

Well, Charlie is a couple of years older, but that would only have made a slight difference, and only in the very early days.

I think the reason for this is more the fact that Charlie is entirely without frivolity and pretense. He has always eschewed partaking in the hellraising of touring life in favor of a more conventional domestic life to return home to between tours. Charlie's character is very solid, and the stability he has built around his personal and family life seems to make the account of Mick in Norman's book spot on in terms of the respect Mick has for Charlie.

I think the illness report is just an excuse, rather than saying, 'Oh, I can't play those dates, because I found something bigger, more lucrative, and more important to do, which would be in poor taste.

I'm betting that in April there will be several threads about Taylor rehearsing with The Stones. If Taylor were so ill that he would have to postpone 2 months worth of activity, then he would be in hospital getting treatment, and this would be news. Midnight Rambler is on for the summer....

He looked fine a few hours after the last Newark show. He was very happy and talkative and was not hanging with Keith, Ronnie and Johnny Depp.
