My 80 year old mother, who lives in Massachusetts, emailed me, she has power and there are guys with shovels at her condo working non-stop shoveling. She also gave me a detailed description of the snow cats that are plowering her condo street. She is having coffee and watching it snow and on the old folks internet emailing her friends. She doesn't think too much about the storm, is now worried about next week when it will be in the 40's and all the melting.

It gets less funny when you read this:

[news.blogs.cnn.com]

[Updated at 2:02 p.m. ET] According to utility figures compiled by CNN, 635,474 customers are without power in nine U.S. states.

[Updated at 1:48 p.m. ET] A boy helping his father shovel out their snowed-in car in Boston has died, the fire department said. The child, about age 11, died of carbon monoxide poisoning after he went into the running car to warm himself . The car's exhaust was covered by snow, causing the carbon monoxide to back up in the car. Emergency personnel responded. The child was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center. He is the sixth person to die in the storm.

It's better in Toronto today. Thank heavens.

You Americans (and people in Toronto) don't know what a real blizzard is, hahah!

We do in the Buffalo area. Many times over. We are experts at dealing snow and its removal. However two feet does present some challenges.

Buffalo, yes for sure. You're right in the path of the Niagra Snow Belt. The East Coast US cities though, and Toronto act as if it's the apocalypse.

What are you talking about? Went to work, got my hair cut, shovelled a few times and off for dinner tonight. It's only a bit of snow.

Boston didn't get nearly as much as predicted. 15" where I am and thats right in the middle of the city. Its snow, but its not the insanity they said it would be.

Weather is crazy. I live in Roslindale, a neighborhood of Boston to non-MA folks, and we have 2 feet easily here with 3 foot drifts all over the place. The light fluffy stuff, thankfully.

Awww Rockee, you really have missed out. Here's a little poem from Robert Frost to give you a taste of snow...

Dust of Snow

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

I wish we had gotten some snow here, it's been a few years since we've had a good amount. Stay safe everyone.

Even when we do get 4 to 8 inches of snow you still get those nutty women trying to look cute navigating the snow and ice in high heals.

Quite right. And yeah, apparently Boston, who was supposed to get the brunt of it, really didn't get as much, while places like Worcester, Connecticut, and I believe Long Island got a ton. Disappointing for you guys so at least stay safe since you got so much.

There was so much snow I had trouble getting it through the blower. My neighbor came over with his boncat and saved me about 3 hours of work

Wasn't too bad here in Northern NJ. Only about ten inches where I live. The poor souls up in New England had it much worse.
