OpenG - read the f*king post!!! Yes I could have said "Mick Taylor with Carla Olsen" etc... but please, keep to 3 STONES SONGS ONLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've read your post, but it doesn't say STONES SONGS ONLY
Of course I'm kidding!
Taylor's best solos all belong to the stones era, anyway!
My selection (only studio recordings - It would be impossible to remember all the live ones)
1. 100 years ago 2. Heartbreaker-tie-CYHMK 3. casino boogie
ESKY - since your post states - (3) Best Taylor solos!!! so.....
#1 - Gimme Shelter - Wembley 1973! Grestest Version ever!! - Per WIMMX
#2 - his solo at the end of the Old Grey Whistle test -1975 with the Jack Bruce band!! (Smiles & Grins) - have to listen to that a few times a month, his interplay with Bruce's bass runs are so excellent!!!!! and his "finger pickin" in spots is incredible! too bad the stupid camera man stays focused on J.Bruce while Taylor is soaring!!
#3 - Sway - according to Taylor, he jammed on this song for a while, wonder if the "original" full length recording is still in a vault somewhere or did it vanish on the cutting room floor??? - MLC
Open G - got the CD's yesterday and listened on the way to work - Liked the different versions of Gimme Shelter and the up-tempo Midnight Rambler!!! god were they kicking-ass in those days!!!! MLC
I should demure on this - objecting to the rules portion of the debate....but, alas, I give in:
1) Stop Breakin' Down (if his solo don't raise the hairs on the back of yer neck, you must be dead)
2) Winter (sweet, sweet, sweet)
3) CYHMK (a no-brainer - just ask RW - who's still trying to figure it out)
...and, of course, the best solo's are to be found on the boots - just about any version of Love in Vain or YCAGWYW from 69-73 would far surpass the above picks.
All those already mentioned are my favourites but a less obvious one is Dead Flowers live at the Marquee. I'm not just talking about the solo during the guitar break but also his work during the rest of the song particuarly the choruses .
Well, I'm not 100% sure, on my Brussel 73 boot (Brussel Affairs) I think (or thought) Street Fighting Man was the only song not recorded in Brussel. But maybe you're right.
I think I've told this story before. At a Toronto show in the early 1990's MT was meeting with fans, signing autographs, he was handed a copy of Bedsprings Symphony, held it up and said that this was his finest work!
