Possible SPOILER: The rumor is that the Devil himself will be driving the
car. I wish the rumor was that Jagger will be playing the Devil, but thats not
the rumor. Unless I just started it.

One site says Usher will play the Devil, Kate Upton playing his girlfriend,
but another says Usher and Upton are in a different commercial for the same car.

Rumor Update: The Devil driver will just ask for directions at the diner.
Directions to a dance club (where they are playing the remix version of Sympathy).
There the Devil will deliver the keys to the car to Usher who then gives the keys
to one of his fans so that the fan can drive a behind-schedule Kate Upton to some
important glittering event. Fade with woo-woos. (Yes, I did just make all that up,
and yes, the Devil did make me do it)

For research purposes, here's Upton's banned commercial from last year's SuperBowl

I am happy to say that I have not given the Stones a dime in 35 years.

This comment made me think. I can't match that, but the last recording of theirs I bought new in store was the Flashpoint CD. It's pretty easy to find their modern-day output used, so I have kept up the collection, pretty much out of inertia. Still don't own a copy of Got Live If You Want It, though.

Kate Upton, Mercedes Benz, Lucifer, Sympathy, Usher, and New Orleans.

Gumbo!

Voodoo Stew!

I mean, c'mon, how can any rocker be against running with the devil?

Der Führer, of course, despite his title, never had a driver's license. But he loved to spend the forenoons at the nearest car dealership where he always felt at ease. He was almost always driven in a Mercedes since he was refused to buy a Maybach by a highbrow Maybach dealer in the early thirties.

1) They've now leaked a Kate Upton-washes-the-new-Mercedes vid, with many media
outlets reporting that it is another tease of the Super Bowl ad. Its not. Its
a misdirection. I'd post it, but its a disappointment, not nearly as hot as the
above one.

2) Still, the hype for the Kate Upton (Sympathy for the Devil) Super Bowl ad is
bigger by far than for any other Super Bowl ad this year. That means about
100 million people will soon have the Kate Upton part of their brains
saturated with Sympathy.
Cool!

3) This new $30,000 Mercedes is also one of the top Business stories around
the world at the moment, as this kind of bargain pricing is a real gamble for
a prestige brand. Let's hope the Stones make the same sort of gamble.

4) As part of the marketing, at least four mini-films have been released so
far. The following is the best of them, and now leads me to believe that the
role of Satan in the Sympathy ad will be played by the car itself. Starring
super model Karlie Kloss, wearing Chloe, with good music by indie band DIIV.

Re: 1)

The sudsy Kate Upton teaser continues to take the Net by storm, half reporting
that it is too sexy for TV, and half complaining that it is not sexy enough.
I now think it is not totally a misdirection, but rather will be an ad within
the ad, which Everyday Joe watches and salivates over shortly before meeting
the "real" Kate Upton thanks to his satanic Mercedes.

Re: 3)

Here is an example of the marketing essays this new Mercedes is generating:

"The product that’s really in danger of doing damage is the Mercedes CLA. It
is a strange bird for Americans.
It is a stubby, compact car with odd
proportions. It is a front-drive, four-cylinder, cheap car. Yes, Mercedes is
a full-line car company in Europe. But merely having a car in Europe is a
privilege. Anything larger or more expensive than a Golf is a luxury...
So I re-affirm my belief that allowing too many people to obtain a premium
product harms its very nature.
Let too many people into your exclusive
nightclub and it suddenly becomes passe. If too many people can buy your premium
clothing line at T.J. Maxx or Marshalls, it is seen as a mass-market product,
or worse, something for poor people.
I find it conceivable that, in such a
crowded, competitive marketplace, traditional Mercedes customers could abandon
the brand if too many undesirables are seen as entering the brand via the CLA."

superrevvy,

In all fairness...
what the hell is this thread even about, and why should I care regardless of your answer?

I don't understand at all.

It won't be a Rolling Stones ad.
It's another Super Bowl ad for another car.
Big deal.

Me: I told ya, I'm not posting the "Kate Upton washes the new Mercedes in slow
motion" ad on IORR

Devil: Yes you are

Me: Well, not unless and until I can find out who does the bluesy music, so
me posting it is at least kinda legit.

Devil: Just do it. Trust me, Rockman will know who does the music...

Me: Oh alright...

If you are about to spread biased and false information while communicating with yourself in your endless egotistical threads you should at least be meticulous with your facts.
Please show us the source for that sweeping statement.

1) I'm hardly in this thread at all. It's all about the commercial, and
trying to figure out how and why Sympathy (and the Devil) is being used in
this potentially market-altering campaign. There are already probably
more news stories about this one Stones-containing commercial than the
entire 50 and Counting tour, so that makes it quite interesting. You really
should try to borrow a clue somewhere.

2) I did not endorse the statement you disliked, only quoted from one of many
commentaries about the new Mercedes, to demonstrate how much is potentially at
stake. If you know more or better, we're waiting breathlessly for your
contribution.

3) google is your friend. and took exactly three seconds

4) and as far as this idiotic objection to quoting from one's own earlier
post to make it clear what point you are referencing, I tell you what, just
make believe it is all one long post, and that all the research was done
beforehand, like a term paper, and not day by day, like a newspaper.
Feel better now?

I really hope Mick isn't reading too much of this kind of snobbish rubbish, or none of us will be able to afford a ticket for any future shows - they'll just be full of millionaires rattling their jewellery.

On second thoughts, maybe he already has read it!

I overreacted to one of your posts, Revvy. I beg your pardon for that. I see now that you used quotations marks correctly. It was someone else's statement, not yours, that I took offence at.
It was negligent of me not to notice that. I do apologize for that.

Just a bit of info for you:

The Mercedes CLA is not produced in Germany but in the new factory in Kecskemét in East Hungary:

And a German Mercedes joke:

If I want to ride a Mercedes - I'll order a taxi ...

I liked The Rolling Stones more when there was a genuine risk of being stabbed at their concert during Under My Thumb.

No problem. Go to just about any urban dance club, put on The Rolling Stones,
and I'm pretty sure somebody will stab you.

It was a GREAT commercial, and Dafoe was perfect. Stones music - amazing to me how timeless it is.

That is certainly a possibility. It all depends on how it's handled and, most importantly, on the quality of the products themselves. I wonder what Toyota would say.

Why is this even a tad controversial?

And what is this thread all about?

They are doing a commercial, apparently. Why is this worse than the Snickers-commercial on the beach, Microsoft in 1995 etc.?

This is not important news, imo.
